my 94 has the appearance of heating up a bit too much. altho...it has never overboiled it has, at least by the gage, gotten hot. it doesnt indicate high temp until an hour or so of driving, but comes up to operating temp. very quickly. speed and location have little to do with it heating up. it is not a constant problem at times it can be 90 degree plus outside and runiing the a/c or not i have a normal temp indication on the gage or it can be moderate out, no a/c and it will indicate high temp. last winter it was always warm on the inside and never indicated a high temp. but since i read the postings in here everyday i have learned that LR tend to be cold natured. i have cleaned out the space between the a/c cond. and the radiator. the belt has been changed. any suggestion.

Probably the gauge and/or the sender unit...notoriously unreliable.

sounds like the guage or sending unit, but I would start with the cheapiest/easiest to fix, IE the thermostat, then see if that helps. they're about $15, if that doesn't work go from there

do the thermostat soonest! Mine stuck closed on the interstate on night at about 0300. No rhyme or reason, just did. When completely stuck, it takes a quick hand to stop the engine before REAL damage starts.....

ok burped it, still indicates higher than normal to hot reading....any suggestions....it could be the temp sending unit (sensor) for the gage. but the dealer advised me that it is not common for a fault in the sensor or the gage. my choices are to go ahead and replace the sensor, which i will do and if that doesnt cure the problem pull the radiator and have it cored. any other thoughts guys?

I had some problems with my 95 overheating but it was mainly going down the highway with the taller tires. It even got hot this winter when it was only like 20 out. Did not have too many major problems till coming back from a trip and the stupid thing ran hot all the way home. Anyway it blew the head gasket the next day. I think the head gasket had been leaking causing it to run warm under load. I had the heads redone and new gaskets and it has never run better no more hot running problems.

it would appear that the radiator had obstructions. it was removed and internally cleaned by a local shop. this appears to have increased the flow enough to keep the rover cool. according to the experts radiators develop scale regardless of the type of water or anti-freeze you use.... thanks to all who gave suggestions.
