I know there is a section on ECUs in the archives, but one or two questions still are unanswered:

1. Where is it (I know, duh)

2. When you put grease on the unit, do you really pack in gobs of the stuff, or just a smidging?

3. If it gets wet, will it still work after it dries out?

4. How much is a replacement, approx.

5. Is it a big deal to relocate it? Or could it be wrapped in rubbermaid box or something?

Good questions, Dean. I'm still working up the nerve & skills to start learning water crossings, but I know someday I'm going to "take the plunge". :-)

I've especially wondered about #5. I imagine it WOULD be a big deal to relocate it, due to the fact that there may well be significant / expensive rewiring involved. However, I have wondered about the possibility of placing a mostly water proof containment around it. An approriate size rubbermaid box could have a few holes cut out, rubber grommets for wire entry, and silicone the unit closed. I don't know if any heat issues would need to be addressed, but it's something to consider.
