OK, it seems to be a bit annoying, but I can't really find the time to drop everything I'm doing to go wheelin' with my buddies, now they're calling me a loser...

Between commuting to and from Portland (from Seattle area-3 hour drive in disco), working on my damned house in Seattle (I work in portland), taking care of my pregnant wife, dealing with my 6 year old, making mods to my disco, and visiting with family from Florida, and there's much much more. Does it seem like I have the time to go to an "All british field meet" next weekend, or go wheelin' with a friend tomorrow, instead of family that I only see once a year ? I've got so much shit to do it's unbelievable.

So does anyone else have a hard time keeping up with EVERYTHING ?

Andy
sorry for the bitch session.

Andy
I am in the same boat sometimes without the kids and travel time.
I work nights so the only real time I can spend with my wife is on the weekends. we bought a house 8months ago alot of work there and my wife had back surgery 1yr ago still not 100%. But I still try to get out whenever I can.
F*** what your friends say if you would neglect your family next thing you will see is your wife dropping the kids off for your weekend visit in that modified Disco :( just treasure the time you can spend with the family and it will work out in the end. who know your buddies could be in the same boat someday then you can call them losers.
maybe Ho,Axel & Kyle will set up a section for us losers:)

Right-o, Micheal. You will have your Disco as long as you want and it and 4 wheeling in it will be the same. However, the kids get older and that time is gone forever. The fun will really start when the kids are all old enough to come along and the whole family enjoys wheeling to the camp site far away from civilization.

Hello Andy, I almost never have time to either. I keep getting offers from people to go with them and never get a chance to go as some thing always comes up. My Disco is getting angry at me for not letting it's feet get dirty but you have to do what you have to do. I'm finally going out tomorrow with some people I have never even meet before since it is the only time that I can go and no one else I know wants to go. Got to keep looking at the bright side though. You get to spend time working on the Disco, see the kids grow up, and spending time with the wife always gets brownie points to use later on when you do get the time.

Peters Mill in GWNF with a some Jeepers from OCC to see what the Forest Service did to it as it has been closed getting repairs and just re-opened a week ago. I heard that they only filled in one part towards the end (was a big pit of water) but going to check it out any way. I was going to install the skid plates and such but, I decided to go wheeling instead and do the skids and bumper cutting later. Won't I be pissed if I mess some thing up that would have had a skid plate there to protect it. Meeting at the trail head at about 10:00am. It's an easy trail but it's not street... :)

Dirt road but, it's still dirt :) Yes you would be correct about really wanting to go bad. I'm going with people I don't know who drive Jeeps that may or may not help me if I get stuck.. I think I will do the easy trail and see what kind of folks these are. Wouldn't want to go some where I have never been before, get stuck really bad and then have them laugh at me and leave me there..

Always up for better places to go if you want to show me some.. Keep in mind that I'm a newbie and I have a stock Disco except for tires and some plates that I haven't put on yet.

Eric did say he was going with some Cheeps so i'm sure Eric is just going too pull them out if they get stuck.
Thanks Eric

Well sorry about that Andy. To be bluntly honest though Kyle.. I really don't have any one to go off-roading with. I have gone by myself a few times which is not smart. I don't like any of the people that I have met at dealer events (could be just that I went to the wrong ones) as they were all snobs mostly range rover owners. So I'm trying to find people to go with. Granted if I break something the people I'm with this time will not really know the ins and outs of a Disco but what other choice do I have. I can let it see nothing but street all day or find some people to go with. All the friends that I have are in to fast cars not some big slow ass truck so I'm kinda out in the cold. Time to meet new people and hope that they are nice.

As for the pulling the jeeps out of trouble I don't know about that. These people are more experienced then I am and they have modified jeeps. I will probably be getting pulled and they will be doing the pulling if anybody gets pulled on this trail. Just my honest opinion.

Hi Andy,
Well, I hate to put it this way, but I'm actually a little relieved to see we're not the only ones who often feel the way you do. I suspect there are many who are (or will eventually) be feeling the same way for certain periods of time. I think Tom & Michael couldn't be more right. We (my husband & I) can surely relate ... we've gone through some pretty hectic and busy times also, in which we've had some long, dry spells as far as wheelin' goes. And then, (of course) when we finally do have some rare free time, we realize that half of the group we usually go with have relocated out of state or now have heavy limitations of their own. It's understandable. Anyone who calls you a loser for not dropping your livelihood, home, and family is an immature loser themself (AKA: "Ignorant Buttwipe"). And that's my opinion.

Cheers,
Kim

How often do you get to Florida and what city do you visit.
We go off roading a couple of times a month. If you ever get stuck in the Tampa area, maybe we could put a ride together. Most of us have plenty of room for a couple of extra people.

Carnage report from todays dirt road ride. Big time scratches all up and down the Disco.. One broken front jeep drive line. Saw three really stupid kids that got drunk and drove through there the night before. Had their pickup truck side ways off a cliff with only a couple of trees keeping it from rolling a couple hundred feet down. We tried to help but it was stuck solid. After 3 hours and trying every thing we could think of we gave up.

Worst part was I had to get a strap from a stock jeep tj due to driver error :( Oh the shame....

In Edinburg? Is that the trail you guys ran?

Kyle

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Eric N (Grnrvr) on Sunday, July 22, 2001 - 09:17 am: Edit

Yes. The forest service spent some money on some signs too. They had some parts with a sign every ten feet saying stay out with mounds. Sometimes as many as 5-6 mounds in row. Also filled in the mud pit after the pond with tree stumps making sure that every one knows that is off limits.

If you want any old Ford F150 parts I'm sure that the truck is still there. It's sitting side ways off the trail on a 70-75 degree slope being held up by a couple of small trees.

And no one had a winch? Damn,,,,poor Ford...

Kyle

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Eric N (Grnrvr) on Sunday, July 22, 2001 - 01:28 pm: Edit

Well two people had winches.. One had it at home as this was Peters Mill.. The other was missing it's cable. I offered up my 50' winch extension cable that we were going to cut an end and spool it onto the winch but then the guy relized that he didn't have his contol either again stating that "This is Peters Mill what do I need a winch for". So we said screw it and tried every thing else. We even had two jeeps strapped to each other trying to pull it out. It just wasn't coming. Maybe they learned their lesson about not drinking and then thinking that they could drive the trail at 1:00am with bald street tires.

We've been in exactly the same boat over the past year with a newborn. Saturday we said screw it! Load up the baby and hit the trail. Well....3 torn off mudflaps later, the one year old's head bouncing side to side in her car seat, and the check engine light on, everyone agreed that it was well worth the trip!

WELL, we made it to the beach this weekend, and we actually did some wheelin'. I bent the tailpipe completely underneath the car, after backing up (into) a hill. It souded like I blew a tire. we used the tow strap to tug it back out the back of the car, and then kept wheelin'. anybody know what i can replace it with ? flowmaster ?

had fun, and my wife jumped our 4.6 about 30 feet, coulda killed her... :)

I must say, the discovery is an animal compared to the 4.6 RR- the RR couldn't do nearly as much...

Hey, looks like we're all in the same boat. ;-)

Since I got married, moved house, and became a father, all of my time disappeared (along with the money too!).

Treasure your family, and make the most of the time you have spare.

I know the feeling Andy. I only get to see my wife twice a month, maybe more if I'm lucky! My job keeps me travelling all over so my time at home is very limited. Heck, we haven't even had a honeymoon since we got married last Oct! How's that for a sad story! Luckily, my wife lets me sleep on the creepy crawler under the RR when I'm home for the weekend. Now that I have the crawler with an adjustable head rest....life is good!

Free time?

In the last 9 months, I got married, quit my job, moved, and now have a child. Things are GREAT, but free time is something I remember from a past lifetime only. We're having fun, but everything is in 3 hour increments (feeding schedule). ;-)

Wouldn't change things a bit.
