Does anybody here know how to tow a 95 Discovery behind another vehicle for long distances? I have been told there is a way, but am ignorant as to the proper way to go about it. All 4 wheels on the road only, please...

The sale of a 95 apparently hangs in the balance. (For more on this saga, see 95 Disco, 44K-74K miles,$13,500)

If you are going to flat tow you should take out the drive shafts. Putting the T case in Neutral aint bad but can still technically overheat the case. Just remove each drive shaft from the flade on the diff. Be carefull after though cause there wont be any parking brake..

How difficult is it to remove and re-install the drive shafts? The previous owner was saying something about the prep it took for towing, but honestly, I wasn't paying much attention because I had no intention of towing it, I was too busy looking at it...

There are 4 bolts on each diff. You wouldn't have to remove the shafts completely, just disconnect both from the diffs. Then you need to secure the disconnected ends of the shafts.

Thanks for your help. Doesn't sound very difficult.

Guy I know did this, and was advised by LRNA to place the t box and gear box in neutral

If you disconnect the drive shafts it does not matter what you leave the tranny and t-case in, as there would be no parts moving in any of them. Of course you will have to be careful if you go that route, since your parking brake will be disabled as well.

We are flat towing a disco II. LRNA advised us to put the t-case in neutral, the gear box in park and leave the key in position I. So far it is working well.

...and most importantly, remember to mark the alignment of the driveshaft flange to the differential flange, so it will be balanced when you re-connect the two. Otherwise, you'll see future messages about "just flat-towed my Rover for 1000 miles now it vibrates at highway speeds since I reconnected the driveshafts; what's wrong? do i need new universal joints?" or something of the like...
