Hi, is anyone running 100/80 w bulbs in their stock Disco I headlamps WITH stock wiring??
Any comments appreciated on this upgrade.
Also has anyone replaced their NAS headlamps with E-code headlamps again for a Disco SI

Thanks
Rick

i did it slightly differently - went with the ipf blue magic bulbs(they also have green. when you turn them off at night they glow!) , they only draw 55w but put out 85w - so no long term wiring worries. also swithed my 'glass' out with s2 headlamps. result, cool looks and much brighter!

ps personally i can't see the diff witht he e codes as the us lamps already have the hwy sign 'fins' on them. every car i have ever owned had 'euro' lamps, and the disco's seem right on - except for the aiming 'nipples' on the surface.

I have Narva 100/55w running with stock wiring. The globes have been in for about two years no probs so far. Ill probably have a short tomorrow now i said that. There is a huge difference from the stock 60w to the 100w well worth the effort.

I've also got the IPF - except the 130/110 - very bright! - two years with no problems (knock on wood)

Additionally - you can get a much better light pattern and overall brightness by switching to the UK spec. headlights. The defraction pattern is much different and the light is much more "straight ahead" concentrated.

I have 110/90W bulbs and no problems so far. The wiring should be good enough for 120/120W theoretically. I think 110 or even 100 is safer. The best route is PIAA or IPF bulbs that draw stock amount of current at greater output. Even 130W bulb will only draw 85W which is well below the 120W max.

Combine this with the D2 lights and you should have some bright lights for night driving.

Where's a good place to get these IPF bulbs? I take it its just the actual 3-pin light bulb itself, rather than the big glass housing?

Milan - what do you mean "combine it with the D2 lights"?

I recently purchased a pair of UK pattern lights from PUMA and installed them with Xenon 60/55 bulbs. The light pattern is very different than the NAS lights.

The light is directed straight foward as well as diffused to the sides and gives muck better forward visibilty. The Xenon bulbs give off about 25% more light with the same wattage as the stock setup, so there is no need to worry about the wiring going up in smoke.

I just drove back to NY from Maine last nite, and I can honestly say I would rather drive with these lights instead of my hella 4000's.

I have a D1 and the part numbers are Bosch
st/pc 0 318 017 314-480 and 0 318 017 313-480
(left and right)

Speak to Paul, he's the one who helped me with this setup so he's familiar with it.

Hi, I imagine they are european spec as opposed to UK, otherwise the left/right light cut-off would be off. I mean with the brits driving on the wrong side and all. If people don't run you off the road cause you've blinded them, then I guess the cut-off must be OK.

thanks

Dean,
I meant using the IPF or PIAA bulbs and using them with Discovery Series II headlamps instead of your stock D1 ones. They have a differently cut lens and appear to be little brighter. However just upgrading your stok light bulbs with those PIAA or IPF ones will yield you much brighter lights.

You're right, those are the Euro spec lights. If you speak to Paul, he might have another set in stock. I think he said that he ordered several sets, but I could be wrong.

If you do get them, I'd be interested in how you like them.
