Does anyone have a source for R-380 gearbox parts?
I lost the fifth/reverse layshaft in the original box (only 73,000 miles and it broke under benign conditions....) and would love to rebuild it...if I can find a layshaft. No one on this side of the pond is interested in selling parts, just whole units. I've emailed some companies in the UK, but several addresses listed in the latest issue of LRE just bounce, 'Simmonites' in particular.
Cheers

Have you tried George yet? George can get you anything like that, might take a little bit to get it here, but he has always helped me. Do you have a Part Number? Give him a call and tell him what you want. I doubt you are in a rush as I know you broke that bad boy months ago.

Ashcroft Transmissions in the UK has responded to my emails about selling r380 parts. I'd love to overhaul mine, but I'm afraid to f*&^ it up. Try him at [email protected] that doesn't work, search for ashcroft transmission+Rover and you should get them. My 2 bits, Jay & Lazarus

I'll give Ashcroft a go. One of the problems is that the factory shop manual had about 2 pages on the R-380. Basically, a one-dimensional drawing, not the usual, 3D or 'exploded' illustrations. Managed to get a few pages faxed to me from my source at LRNA...but no part numbers....

SG, I have the exploded drawing if you need it. I've never done tranny work before, but would love to try it. Let me know how it goes if you give 'er a go....Jay
