I'm a Yakima fan and I'm considering outfitting my 1999 LR Disco Series II with a Yakima roof bars, etc. I have bike and ski attachments that I can use from my previous SUV (Pathfinder) Yakima set-up.
Does anyone have experience good or bad with Yakima and its fit/usefulness with the LR Disco Series II ?
I'm not a big fan of the rear mount due to the fact that it reaches so far back in the rear when loaded up. I'm afraid it will become an accident waiting to happen.

I've had no problem with Yakima syastem on my Disco 2. Just a little loud, so I find myself removing the rack when I'm not hauling bikes and boats. I got the factory rack mounted, not gutter mounted. It seemed to be a cleaner set up.

I've got the Yakima DoubleCross brackets that are designed to fit a vehicle's existing side rails. This places the cross members up high enough for the sunroof to open and close.
The cross members did generate a good bit of noise. I bought a fairing to go with it, and it took care of 90% of the wind noise, so I keep the rails attached all the time.
