I was looking at the West's article about adding 235/85/16's. However, the images dont seem to work. Does anybody have good photos or recommendation of what to trim for the new treads. I am aprehensive about making the first cut

First, cut off the front spoiler at the horizontal line that is molded into it. The rest just unbolts. A sharp utility knife works. This gives you a lot more ground clearance, eliminates front rubbing, and makes you look cooler.
In the rear, since from your other thread you are going with MDs, you may want to trim a bit more than normal. Get a thin abrasive cut-off wheel and an electric drill. Aluminum is soft so it is easy. Start at the bottom edge of the black trim piece and make an angled line back and down towards the mudflap bracket. Try going from nothing at the black trim to an 1 1/2" or so at the bottom. That should do it. Wear safety glasses. Dress up the burrs, and cut the bent piece at the bottom back at an angle to give further clearance. It hurts to do it, but you'll never notice it when you're done. Test it in a parking lot or something before you hit the trails.

Dont worry about making the first cut. You don't need to take much off the rear. Use a small slat of wood and a couple of clamps to make sure your cut is straight. I think I measured less than 4" up along the fender rim and 1 1/2-2" along the bottom edge.

One more--keep in mind this left just enough room.

ohhhh.. The slat of wood is a great idea! Keep the pictures coming! Has anyone had problems selling their discovery after trimming the rear wheel well?

Don't know if they would really notice the cutting at time of trade in. It's all the scratches up and down the Disco from tree branches and rocks that will be mostly noticable. I would have to re-paint mine in order to sell it.. Scratches down the sides, on the roof, on the hood, on the rear..

Moe, do you use rogaine on your tires?
Do you ever shave the treads or do you just leave it like that to improve traction?
This gives me an idea...
