First off - Great web site.

I'm hoping to pick up my first Disco in the next couple of weeks. Can any of you guys (& gals) give me a few pointers on what to look for before I hand over my hard earned money.

I have seen a 99' TDi Safari local to me, cannot find any info on them. Any help appreciated.

Use will be about 70/30. 70% tarmac, 30% light/medium off road when I go hunting etc.

Any help appreciated.

gee-

i wish i could be of better help - are you sure it's a 99 safari? as i thought the last year of the safari was the 98 build out? what more can you tell of the car? the 300tdi is a good motor- but from what i hear the td5 'storm' is just that much better. i got a friend up in york who swears by lpg conversion. have you thought of getting a v8i and switching it around?

so it's an 'r' reg series one 'romulus' then? what more can you tell of it? colour specs etc

Steve,

The log book shows date of issue as 4/99 which is strange as a few people have said 98 was the last time the Safari's were made.

Reason for a TD is for MPG. TD5's are too expensive. What kind of figures are V8's giving on LPG? How much would it cost me to convert it?

"R" Reg series one "Romulus" ?? You've lost me on that one!

Colour is dark met green, beige velor trim, Aircon, 4xElec windows, 2 x Sun Roofs, Side steps, rear door ladder (?) Elec mirrors, F/Fogs + 2 spots, with a manual gear box.

Any help is appreciated.

horness -

wehn it came time for me to buy a disco - i had a limited budget. i could either get the first of the new 'tempest' models or the last of the 'romulus' (which was the internal l/r code for the 300 series discos) - by 'r' i meant the reg letter on the car's number plate, vs a 's' or 't' reg.

i opted for the last of the first - and i do not regret it. the car has been very reiable and aside from the fuel consumption of 14mpg with the the 4.0 litre v81 that we are forced to have with nas cars - i really am still thrilled to drive it.

here in the states we do not have access to tdi's unless custom build for us by private firms. an excellent resource is land rover owner international magazine - my favourite landie mag. there are always articles on maintainence and tips etc. with yours being a newer model there should not be too much wrong with it -but as with any used car - have a competant garage inspect it for you.

lastly - re: the lpg conversion- check lro as there are many firms offering it. they would know best the answers to your questions. i was under the impression that they were slightly thirstier than petrol - but off set by 35-45p a litre vs. 90p for petrol. so calculate your mileage you expect to use the car to see if the lpg would make sense for you. i think the 300tdi would most likely be the way to go.

keep me posted on what happens!

Thanks Steve.

This 99(T) option is looking pretty good, although a main Land Rover dealer has said they may be able to offer me a new 00 model on some good terms.

Once I have my landie, you'll all know it. You won't be able to shut me up! :)

Thanks again for all your help.

Horness.
