Someone was asking about how well Discos hold up in a crash. Well I ran across the Insurance Institute for HIghway Safety web site at: http://www.hwysafety.org/ that has ratings for both Disco series.
Disco 1: http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/html/96003.htm
Disco2: http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/html/99010.htm

i posted this a while back, but i hit a tree head on doing 45 dead center (bad choice of words) and walked away with a banged up knee (i'm 6'-3") and head. (good thing the roof liner comes down low!!) no roof line deformation or anything like on these links. then again mine was not an offset crash. (yeah....like i planned it that way)

Good to hear you did OK. I'm feeling ill looking at the pix, though. Do I even want to know how the tree got in front of you?

nope. you really don't. well at least i don't think you do. actually just driving to damn fast on a tiny dirt road that i was very unfamiliar with in vermont. not the way i use to go home, but my roomate insisted. but when i went back the following day to recount the incident the tree i hit was the only thing there to hit in the bend in the road. my luck of course. well i am happier with my '96 now anyway. could have been a lot worse and we are pretty damn lucky. we were all (3) buckled in. even the guy in the back.

As I mention in a thread above, If you are looking for a visual, www.copartfinder.com has many many pics of mangled Discos.

yeah i was checking those out too. there are some pretty nasty ones in there making my accident look like a door ding. i even saw a few in there where the airbags did not open. in some cases i know that is a good thing. like when i hit a deer doing 80 in a volvo 850. but in some of those LR pics i think they should have.

Looks like the series II isn't NEAR as safe as SI.
Cool.

a big flaming firebird on the hood would be very cool...but you'd have to have that engine to back it up...
I love it when they roll out of the smoke-filled van before school

a few of my favs from the movie:
"got any ice-T?" (just before the pool house)
"i gotta go Stacey" (pool house scene)
"all i need is a cool buzz and some tastey waves"
"that's a really nice jacket" (dugout scence)
"are you really 18" ......."yeah......yeah i really am" (god i love that one!!!)
"doesn't anybody fucking knock anymore!" (bathroom scene looking out window)
i really have too much time today.
