Wanted to know if others have disabled their ABS
when four wheeling. What are the benifits and
negatives towards using ABS.

yes, many have including me. the stock system sucks and increases braking distances, especially when off road.

I dosconnected mine in the winter. My stopping distance on ice was increased due to the ABS. Once disconnected it hadled just like any other car on ice - i.e. not great but at least it was no longer creeping into the intersections.

Remove the dash binnacle and pull the bulb from the PCB.

So is it safe to just leave the fuse out permanently? I have never had ABS on any other vehicle, and I have never had it activate while driving the truck, but that light sure does activate...for no reason at all. How would driving or rather stopping in snow, etc w/o the ABS be affected?
P.S. how do you get the binacle off?

what the hell is a binnacle?

Marc,

The 'binnacle' is the housing around the dash-guages.

Thanks
I will remove it as soon as I have time but I will say one thing, in Canada it snows like hell and with the ABS it was a night mare when it was time to stop. The factory system does not perform well on snow.

Lino,
Do you plan to keep the ABS fuse out? Also, please let me know how you get the binnacle off. I am trying to decide if I should go ahead and ditch ABS permanently. Any comments would be appreciated.

get a little piece of black tape and put it over the light on the OUTSIDE of the instrument glass.

Naah,Can't do it. I don't like that piece of tape there...I have to do it right or not at all.
(As if disconecting the ABS system is "right", but if it really is that bad what do I need it for?)

tape sucks! I've had it for a while. Any day I have time I plan to replace the bad speed sensor in my right front wheel. That will turn the light off easier and properly.

Lino,
Where in Canada are you? I'm in Calgary. I too found the ABS horrible on snow and ice. Or anywhere I expect a lock up.

I also found it much easier to pull the plug from the underhood module. No fuses to loose. However, the light is still on. One day I may remove the bulb but since I know why it's on it does not really bother me.
