What's the problem with putting 4.10's in a stock D1?

I saw a message on a link that said you would be undergeared with 4.10's and the stock tires. How so? If anything you should be overgeared since the vehicle will be ahead in the Rpm range. Since I live in CO I was going to put them on to get some power back when going up the passes to get to my favorite off-road paths. Plus it should help keep the tranny in D longer instead of constantly hunting.
Let me know if this is true or not. I was also going to put a Detroit and heavy duty axles in the back. Thanks!

It will work no problem. I think were just stating the obvious. You will be undergeared over 18% I think. That will be pretty signifigant at highway speeds. Yeah , in the hills and passes it will be nice but on long flat drives it might drive you insane. Your gas mileage will also suffer from it. The one good thing is that you can adjust it then to your liking with tire size.. I see no problems with it as long as you know what you are getting into from the start..

If you travel on the highway at 65 or more I don't think you or your engine will like it. However, like Kyle says, if you know that from the start you will be fine. It will be great off-road.

Make sure you go with the heavy duty axles if you are going with the detroit locker ... 4.10's and a detroit can do a number on stock axles. I was thinking about cheating and trying the stock axles - won't make that mistake.

Just so you all know I was using facts and math to come up with my assumption. My D1 is spinning about 2200 or 2300 Rpm's at 65 while in D. My math says it should go up to 2600 or 2700 with a gear change to 4.10's. That doesn't seem too bad to me.
I generally don't go over 65 mph. The cruise is set between 50 - 65, depending on the signs. One time I accidentally left the truck in 3rd with the cruise set for about 20 - 30 miles. Man, did I like the way it pulled. I figure 4.10's should do the same.
In the future I do plan on upgrading to a 245/75 series tire. As for mileage, it couldn't be any worse than what my long departed Chevy truck use to get. Thanks for the info!

zane you could use two sets of tires on road set one off road

which is what i have allways done
