Having read through a lot of the posts on DiscoWeb, of which about 90% of the content goes wooshing over my head, can I ask -

What should be my first mod?

My disco will only be used for light/medium off road (nothing as extreme as some of you guys & gals go for... yet) and I don't want to spend a fortune.

Was thinking of front and rear dif protectors first. Anything else?

Any help appreciated.

Horness. [UK[

Diff protectors are a good first mod. Rock sliders would be a good 2nd mod. By the time you do that, you will have started down that slippery slope...

The fisrt thing that I would do is "trim" off the spoiler on your front bumper(takes less than 30min). It gives you a much better approach angle and you can see your axle! Diff protectors are a must too.

There was a previous thread about Diff protectors with the majority of votes for $afari Gard and 1 vote for @tlantic British.

Any other votes? Preferably Bolt on?

Trim the air dam and bumpers! I just did mine as my (almost) first mod. so happy, diff guards are next, then 2" lift and tires!

assuming your off roading will consisting of green laning - i would get diff guards to protect the 'pumpkins' as there could be rocks or tree stumps hidden in the mud. and or i would get new trainers for the wheels. the stock michelins are not very handy in the wet stuff. a good at tyre would suit in 235-70 / 225-75 / 245-70 or 255-65
- assuming you do not plan to lift.

also bumper trimming of the 'poodle scrapper' will lower your mpg and makes the car look somewhat unsightly.....

You can't do much damage to the aerodynamics of a brick and the looks issue is debateable. There's enough cheap plastic facia going around as it is. What looks worse, a neatly trimmed front bumper or a smashed in facia with broken fog lamp? The stock front approach angle is terrible.

Tires/trainers I agree on. The Michelins are nice, but there are better ways to go. Don't do tires until you've decided on the lift issue. Think it through before you plunk down the cash.

Hey, it's all opinion and it's much easier to spend your money anyway.... ;-)

Diffgards, rock sliders, front bumper, no winch...
then winch...then HD suspension, then rear locker with better tyres...then...then...then...you'll be all set!

Eric,

David Gage at the Thatched Roof Garage has some meaty diff-guards. heaviest one I've seen... they were intended for Series Rovers, but the front diff is the same, it fits fine. I haven't held a SG one, but I can't imagine that it would be better... the same maybe, but this one would be hard to improve on, IMO.

David's not yet back from Billing, but should be in next week. http://www.thatchedroofgarage.com/
