I have been looking at replacing my stock air filter with a K&N filtercharger. I live in Colorado so any air flow gain and hp increase is welcome but not at the expense of dirt filtration. Roads to the trail heads can be real dusty. I found the following thread on K&N filters at:

Interesting experience at the end of this thread. Needless to say I'm a little concerned by the real dirt filtration performance vs. claimed. Looks like the best solution is two filters - one for everyday and another to swap in before the dirt roads. Anyone have any opinions or similar experience as the last item on this thread?

I Found that my K&N is not holding the oil good enough.. My snorkel scoop sends way too much compressed air for the K&N to handle...

I installed a KN cone 1500 miles ago. I had it laying around so I just threw it on as a "let see what this will do". The air temp sensor is wire tied to the side of the filter, not the best thing. I cleaned my throttle plate before the install so I will check on its cleanliness this weekend. I did notice she was a little more responsive in the 2k through 3k RPM range

K&N should be out the window as well. Any (If any) gains are canceled by the cons. Its an Air FILTER , it only job is to filter and the K&N falls short in that arena.
