After 16K miles I am now running on my 3rd transfer case. I guess the third time is a charm.

As you may have seen (or heard) the Disco II has about a 40/60 split on whether your transfer case will whine or not. The first t-case from the factory was a little noisy so I asked the dealer to examine it...they replaced it immediately. The second t-case was pretty good until it sprung a leak and bled in my garage. The dealer sealed the leak and changed the oil in the case. After this, it howled and whined even more than the original case. I let it go until the 15K service. I bitched again and insisted the mechanic go for a ride with me - he heard it and agreed, I need another t-case! So far, the latest case is super quiet and is noticably different than either of the first two. I am happy as I can be.

Moral of the story - don't give up until you get it RIGHT.

Wow. And I got upset when mine started growling at 129K...

It's still growling at 133K, but doesn't seem to be getting any worse.

I listen to the radio a lot more, and at a louder volume, now.
