I got a gift certificate for a hundred bucks at
safarigard. How would you spend it? Is there steering dampner relocation kit any good?

Sell the certificate for $75 and consider yourself better off

If you don't have diff guards, do that.

I spent mine on brake lines.

The diff guards suck, too thin. Try the Hi-lift mount.

Mabe John will cash it in at Roverym.
Seriously, Is the dampner relocation kit any good?

Rovertym. I was on the Discoweb during spelling class.

Diff guards too thin? Never heard that one before. I know my front one has taken a few good hits (enough to stop the truck in its tracks) and is holding up just fine.
As for that high-lift mount, its works OK, but keep in mind that the extra weight on the door is NOT good for your hinges and will deform them eventually.

Can't you just take the Hilift off when your not offroading?
By Alex Schubow (Alex) on Monday, July 30, 2001 - 06:21 pm: Edit |
That's what I did, but it still fkd up the hinges. I keep mine in the load area, across the bck, right by the door. Secured it to the tiedowns with hose clamps. Works just fine, doesn't rattle... To each his own.

is the relocation kit any good???
By nadim on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 - 06:14 am: Edit |
Juan!
It SUCKED bad for me...I have a 3" in the front, and when I installed it, it was terrible...the system does not work, and i think the fault is mainly in the fact that the same pin/pin damper was used...
I actually returned it!
I am currently going to install a custom dual eye/eye setup...i think that that will wok much much better...
For the relaction kits on the market, go for RTE
By Moe on Tuesday, July 31, 2001 - 06:16 am: Edit |
Cal, I think John will honor the certificate at 75 cents on the dollar Then you can afford the RTE relocation kit and you will have to get the beefy steering links too.
Alex, I also throw my highlift in the back. The 60" fits snuggly diagonally across the cargo space. The foot wedges against the inner wheel well and the top extends up to the alpine window. I fasten the bottom with the middle passengers seat belt and the top to the seat belt anchor up by the alpine window. I have long handle shovel bundled with it. With the padding, there is no noise and it sits very solid. For the amount of use it sees, this is a good place for it and it can remain there when back in town.

Moe,
Picture please. I can't quite get it from your description. Sounds like a great way to mount my 60" hi-lift.

Tom, I don't have pictures or a digital camera. Let me try instructions instead of description.
First, cover the top end of the highlift with some padding and then put an old sock over it. With the rear seats up and in place, make sure you have the middle passenger's seat belts accessible from the cargo area--this provides one tie down point. Have a short piece of cord handy for the top tie down. With the cargo door open insert the top end of the jack and work it towards the passenger side alpine window, resting it just behind and above the rear seat belt shoulder anchor. In the meantime you have slid the base of the jack in and wedged it against the inner driver's side wheel well. Now use the seat belt to anchor it down. Use the cord tied to the upper seat belt anchor to secure the top end. You also might want to use a flexible strap to to wrap around the handle and the jack to prevent it from rattling. I hope that was a little clearer.

Hmmmm, well if the diff guards ain't so hot (Atlantic British guards are twice as thick) and the jack mount is not a good idea we do have a problem. If you're a coke head you can roll it up and snort with it. You can put some glue on it and make a totally cool sticker for your bumper. You could have it framed for your office. If you frame it you could add a little hammer under it with a sign that says in case of fire break glass and toss on fire. You could add $1,300. or so and get a nice bumper from them. A cocktail coaster? Wait I have it, you could work it into a Monopoly game somehow.

Moe,
Thanks, that should be clear enough. I will give it a try and ask if I have q's. The only thing I don't like about this setup is if I get the hi-lift full of mud. I guess I will hang onto my $G hanger and use it sparingly when needed.
