4 Disco and a RR were down at Evans Creek in Washington last Sunday for a run of a few trails. We had a great time and everyone took home part of the trail either in the form of scratch, lost end cap, flat tire, dead battery, broken rear light casing, or failed spring retainer. Actually, I think the RR was the only one to escape clean. The trails are tight and can be very challenging for stock rigs.

We came off our last trail into a ‘staging’ area where you can test your hill climbing ability etc. Over to one side was this J**P/Chevy cross breed Skyjacked to heaven with big Baja Claws spinning wildly and threatening to roll off this rock obstacle. Even locked in the rear he was going nowhere and had to be winched off, as he had worked himself into a position that would have rolled when backing down. In defiance he held up $20 and offered it to anyone who could make it up. An old Chevy locked in the front crawled up the rock and then his friend in a locked Toyota did the same. Unfortunately good will did not prevail and the $20 was not offered to any of our stock LRs. For sporting reasons only, I had a go in the Disco and got it after a few tries. Then the RR followed for good measure.

Here is a link to a video of the action. This website belongs to the victor who drove the beat up Chevy (that you won’t see in the video). Follow the link and scroll down to the ‘$20 rock’. While the video makes the obstacle look tame, when you are standing in the hole surveying the rock it’s a little intimidating.

John, you can see that I need the RTE sliders real soon :)

The $20 rock: Very nice, Moe! I am getting frustrated again - I bent my brushbar on an obstacle somewhat like that - Obviously, not exactly like it, or my stupid fog lights, brushbar, bumper, fender, etc. would have been complete toast. I have the ground clearance of a mini van ... aaarrrrgghhh! Okay, I must stop this now .. (just had a new refrigorator delivered last week $$) ..."Kim, get your hand off the mouse, and just step away from the computer..":)

Evans Creek...sorry. I've been meaning to go. I guess that answers the question of "which is better- J**p or Disco" IF THERE EVER WAS ANY QUESTION!!

Andy, Josh organized the trip. There was Scott Borchardt, myself, 'Hack' running a black Disco, and Greg in the RR, and of course a few ladies. You need to join us on the next outing.

I think a stock J**P would have performed better than that hulking, stiff POS. He had his tires' psi down so low that at one point there was only an inch seperating the rim from the dirt, almost causing a rollover. What wasn't on video was the condition of the winch line that pulled him out: kinked, rusted, and ready to break. We all ran for cover.

I've been unable to go with you guys, crap keeps coming up, and now I'm selling my Disco. I won't be taking it wheeling anymore, but my next disco will be dedicated-should have it ready by end of sept. we'll see. glad you had a good time-

Way to go Josh. A little public humiliation to spur him into action. Maybe you should call him a posuer and not a flake K

"Flake" - LOL

Josh, maybe if you had some responsibility in your life (instead of mommy buying you a disco) you'd understand what life is ALL about. Get married when you're 17, and have a child right away. See what your life will be like in 6 years, you ungrateful prick.

Oh wait, you still live at home!

Sure way to burn a bridge. Good luck picking up your rack in Portland.

-LOL

Damn Andy, you got married when you were 17 and had a kid. That had to put some stress on you. More power to you for doing it and making it work though. I wouldn't even keep a girlfriend longer then 3 weeks when I was 17. Now I'm 30 and getting married (for the first time) in May.

Andy!

What are you dragging me into this for!!! :)

Seriously, BTDT.... EXACTLY as you described...
Married at 17 and had my daughter right away.
6 years later, let's see... would have been getting out of the Marine Corps, finishing up my BS, and bringing home my newborn son from the hospital.

Now it's 5 years after that, let's see.... Now have a MS, good job with the state, am in the process of buying a subdivision lot on which to build a house, and we've just learned that chillun #3 is on the way. Life is good, but it's always work to make it such. LOL.....

I'm not as young as I look to a lot of people. I used to I resent the "So your Daddy bought it for you" that I'd get when I was younger driving a decent looking vehicle J**p that I worked hard to keep nice. What kills me now is, the fellas in their 50s who are driving a Toyota or a Lexus, cruising around all puffed up thinking that they've made something of themselves, and then turn and icily glare at me when they see that I'm a younger fella cruising around in my Disco (which they're thinking is a high-dollar Rangie). Hey, they could've bought a Disco too, instead of running with the other lemmings. To each his own.

L-
I wasn't dragging you into it at all ! I'm just saying- some people pass judgement on me, thinking I'm like 30 or something with "life in order", and I just turned 24 (last week). I'm working on building my second home, and NO my parents have never bought me anything, in fact, I pay their mortgage ! Do I regret the path I've chosen, no F-ing way.

I live for the old man who pulls up next to me in his P.O.S toyota or lexus. They usually stare at me or the wife (in either the 4.6 or the disco)because we're so young, they probably think i'm a pimp or something...kinda funny really...

BTW- good job Leslie, most people like us would've given up.

L- Where are you from ?

Andy

Ah Andy . . . I think Josh was just teasing you. I spoke to him earlier today, so I can assure you that he is at work earning money, paying taxes, and doing well in life. At ~18yrs he may not be interested in the 4.6HSE, wife, kids, and dual properties, but I do think he wants to go wheeling with you :)

BTW what is it with this American phobia of kids living with their parents one day past high school graduation?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Andy Nix (Andy) on Thursday, August 02, 2001 - 10:15 am: Edit

...about living at home, that has to do with responsibility. He gives me ALOT of shit, which shouldn't be the case, as he's just a kid still.

I didn't have a Disco at 18 yrs old much less a 4.6- I was working my ass off so I could afford diapers. Now that things have sorta cooled off, I've been able to buy my dream rigs. I drove a 1982 Honda Accord when I was 18, BUT my mommy and daddy DIDN'T buy it....

If you click on my name, it "should" show my profile, if I've got it set right.... Regardless....

I'm from Upper East Tennessee. I actually live on the TN-VA state line. I'm a geologist w/ the state of Virginia, in the coal-mining regulatory agency here.

Come November, I'll have been married for 12 years. Yeah, it's had it's moments, but we're still planning on many dozens more. The trick to it is, to be stubborn enough to stick together. Each of you have your moments when you're ready to walk, but all it takes is for both of ya to have enough stubborness to stick around and work through anything. Just set the end-goal as coming through whatever together, and then adjust everything else to make that happen. Yeah, it means some sacrifices, but you're doing yourself the favor in the long-run by sticking with it. If you've made it six years starting at 17, you know exactly what I'm saying. Anyway...........

Hah.. That's kind a funny Leslie but, so true. That's like my fiance and me telling each other that we wouldn't be able to leave each other even if we wanted to as no one else would want us :) We've been living together for over 7 years now and getting married in May..

Andy, Everybody gets whats coming to them sooner or later.. I have had many friends that got handed every thing when they were kids. Used to really piss me off some times that I'm busting my a$$ to make enough money for things that I need/want and they just get whatever they want handed to them. Some of them had it real hard once they found out what real life is all about. I get along better with some of them now becuase of it. Now they know what it is like to have been in my shoes and to feel how I felt when they would give me $hit about not going out with them or not having this or that. It's hard. My parents had money but, my Dad was really cool in the fact that if I wanted some thing I had to get it myself there was no such thing as handouts at my house. I look back now and I'm glad he did that. Probably the best thing he has ever done for me.

Yeah, life sucks then you get married.

Yeah Andy, jus to begin, I'll have you know that I indeed paid the majority of my car due to my smart invesments. As for living at home, i think you should examine your current location in Portland. and as far as burning bridges, I just meant a bit of humor, and like moe said, get your ass in gear!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Andy Nix (Andy) on Friday, August 03, 2001 - 10:45 am: Edit

Smart Investments. LOL. She bought it for you when you turned 16 ! My current location in Portland ? I stay with friends, family, whoever will have me until my house is done being built. If I can stay with my parents, that's great, as I didn't ever get along with them when I was your age. Now my dad is my best friend. Considering I pay their mortgage, I'd say they're living with me! This is all (of course) said in fun, as is any other smart-ass post. I won't be wheeling my Discovery at all anymore, unless my friend doesn't buy it, then I'm all for Evans Creek.
