Hey

I’m the one who started the "30,000 Service Call vs. Warranty Call" . Well after not hearing from L of L I decided to call. I was informed that I had a valve problem, that’s why my “Service Engine Soon” light was on, and Land Rover’s solution was to replace the heads. Now I didn’t inquire as to what caused this problem, I’ve changed oil every 5000 miles [Castrol 10W-30 Synthetic] and used only premium gas. Has anyone else run into this?

Oh yeah, still no loaner. Service manger won’t approve one. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to their policy, it seems to be left up to the service manager. If I wanted to deal with that kind of s*it I’d have bought a Kia.

Now for question two, I posted a message here some time ago about when I could expect to service the brakes. The people who responded prompted me to decide to do this myself. BUT, I have a question; will I need to turn the rotors? One of the post stated that you could not turn Disco rotors, but I have read other post here stating you do. The Disco has 30,000 miles and the brakes do not give any sign of being completely worn. Also, is it normal to have to bleed the system if the job is done correctly? Thanks

As a general rule I never "turn" rotors. After use your discs will have some warpage. If you turn them you will have that shimmy at high speed. It's expensive but ALWAYS replace your discs, you will be happier in the long run. Done quite a few driveway brake jobs and always had good results. As far as bleeding if you only change out the discs and pads you probably won't need to bleed brakes. It really isn't that hard though to bleed brakes, you just need an extra body (girlfriend or wife, they'll really enjoy helping you too, right). It all depends, I've had times where I've done a minor job but somehow got air in there. You should be okay and if you can work a tire iron you can probably change your brakes.
