Hi all.
looking for wizdom :-)
I have a 2001 disco II, love it and hate it.
whats up with the front bumper, could they make it sit any lower? anyway...
I have an adventure rack, 2nd full spare, wrap-around bull bar (or as I found out it should be called wrap-around decoration) frame level front cIII hitch and a warn 8000lb winch on a
mounting system (that is usually crried up front).
also on rides I bring 2 heavy tool boxes, arb air pump, heavy camera kit and a full grown doberman.
also I would carry even more stuff, when going camping...
under all this load the truck is just not sitting right. I need something to compensate for all this
extra weight. I could also use a moderate lift 1 to 2 inches. and room for mud terrain tires
these are scenarious that have been suggested:
1) ome hd springs + ome shocks
2) ome hd springs + bilsten shocks
3) ome hd springs + stock shocks
4) rovertym springs + stock shocks
(I called rovertym, the owner said that he
can not sell me anything, including springs,
for disco II cause it is still in testing)
I want this pretty soon cause I want to go to
Solaros event in mid September. Can someone
enlighten me on this subject.

Dennis,

I like Scenario I the best. Good springs and good shocks. Lift is about 1.5", so it's between the lift parameters you stated.

Scenario II is very good as well. Bilsteins are great shocks and give a very good ride. The only thing I don't like about the Bilsteins is that they are on the short side. On the D2, I haven't tested whether the shorter shocks will hinder RTI or or whether the radius arms will limit flex first. If the latter scenario is true, then the shorter length of the Bilsteins won't matter.

Scenario III is not good. The stock shocks give a lousy ride because they are not gas charged. I have demonstrated this to myself several times when I deflated all of the gas in my LTR shocks and the only resistance in the shocks was the hydraulic valving. The ride is mushy, squishy, and generally lousy compared to when the shocks are charged with air pressure.

Scenario IV is not good, not because of the RT springs, but because of the stock shocks. If you can wait and want the extra lift of the RT springs, it might behoove you to wait until RT's suspension kit comes out for public inspection and you can see what kind of shocks it comes with.

Dennis, I'm working w/ John on his DSII lift. It's awsome and rides wonderfully. If you can, I would wait for his kit. If you need any more info, let me know.

Hi Greg

When u say u work with John...
Is that John, the owner or RoverTym?
If that is so...
Can u tell me alittle about the kit?
How long should I excpect to wait?
Approximatly what kind of money are we talking about?

ps: I would certainly prefere 3 inch lift over 1.5, but this is a going to be a compomise between
expenses and returns...

I currently have two Series II trucks set up with a 3" spring lift kit that are different people in different off roading venues to give results. We are trying different spring rates, shocks, etc to do a comprehensive long term evaluation of the 3" lift. I do not rush this as I want to have good answers for good questions when the product is offered to guys like you. I can sell 2" and 3" springs now but I wont rush before leaping so the customer will understand all possible cause and effect issues. A 3" lift on a Series II vehicle with its changed suspension and weight characteristics just needs to be understood first long term. Another 6 weeks maybe. Thanks for your interest.

Dennis, by your first post and the info you gave I still recommend #1 for your personal needs. Also you can still run a 265/75 MT tire with the OME lift. I think you are looking for moderate lift and slightly larger tire.
