Nadim,

Hook it up to a trickle charger overnight and see if it holds a charge.

Yes.

Its not 100% dead. If it were a red top he would be in trouble

I think you can kill a deep-cycle battery just as easily as a normal battery if you let the voltage drop far enough...

Optima used to have a lot of good info on their site - now it all sucks. Must not want to clue Bob Lutz at the competition. :)

You do not use the deep cycle for your regular starter man!! Thats the way it is .... If you do you are fucking up.. I dont care if the yellow looks "cool" or not

And you don't use your starter battery for winching. And I don't care if everybody you know (including me) does it. :)

Nadim, am I correct that you have the dual batteries? If so, one is the Yellow top and the other is . . ? Having two slightly different batteries might be adding to the problem.

Moe...
I have a 100% interrupt switch, therefore the other battery was completely isolated from the Optima...I am sure there was a tiny electrical leak, but isn't the yellowtop a deepcycle..so shouldn't i be able to simply recharge it???

Not after its subjected to a use that it isnt designed for. Give it a shot but the ALT is working right? So it was getting charged while it was running ??

I am really not sure Kyle...I will be 'home' on Monday...and I will fix it hopefully...
I just hope that if worse comes to worse...the dealer in LB still has a couple of yellowtops...

thanks,
Nadim

i went thru two yellow tops in three years on my cherokee. i was told that the yellows are not a starting battery, and even thought the car was a daily driver, they still would go belly up. i would imagine a solar powered trickle charger might help keep the sucker alive.....

so what is the best battery for our cars and how long do the stock ones ususally last?

I was told that the Yellow tops are deep cycle and SHOULD be discharged and the recahrged. Why would you want to connect a solar powered charger on it?

I know you have that interrupt switch but at some times both batteries are (have been) operating together--Yes? The lesser battery might be drawing the Yellow top down and making it weaker. I hope she takes a charge--too expensive not to. Maybe you should take a couple back home as carry on luggage :)

Exide Orbital gel cells rule! They can take a bullet and keep on going. This is very important when driving to the mall here in DC. As a bonus, it looks like a six pack of beer.

If you have a dead optima battery put it on a high charge(~60amps) for 20 mins, then switch to a trickle charge(~2amps) until it is fully charged.
