How do Rover gearboxes,diffs,etc. do on synthetic oil? What is the best kind to use?

Pretty Good - That's what the factory shipped in my 97. Amsoil is pretty good stuff, if you can find/afford it.

why would dealer say to use regular vs. synthetic? I have a 99 disco II and have asked about putting in synthetic, they say it could cause leaking???

Ignorant Dealer - years ago when synthetics hit the market Mobil had a problem with an additive that caused seals to shrink causing leaking. Everyone was quick to blame " synthetics ". These older engines also were running dino oil at the time that just didn't compare to today's higher quality oil and the engines were gummed up. Synthetics keep an engine super clean and it ate away at this buildup causing leaks - another hit on synthetics. You will see lower tranny temps and better shifting from your tranny using a synthetic and wont suffer any leaks.
