Alright - this is kind a lame tech post, but interesting all the same.
I was rooting around in the passenger footwell while running a new CB antenna cable and came across the control unit for the remote locks. I've never had any problems with mine, but noticed the "antenna" was a piece of 18 ga wire only about 2" long. I extended it with a 4 ft piece of similar wire and ran it up the "A" pillar and back along the headliner. Result is locks/unlocks from about 50-60 feet (with 4 year old batteries in the remote)

nice. i know...i usually have to be within arms length to get mine to work with a new battery. i was doing the same thing while installing my cb antenna too, but never saw that wire. better take another look.
thanks.

I did it today. Under the black panel on the passenger side. Take out the fir tree fasteners and remove the panel. The wire is right there. Red in color and held in place with a white plastic doo dad
Here is a pic (hopefully)...

That's the one - only my wire was white and of smaller gauge (and only about 1 1/2" to 2" long)
