I have a 97 Disco and it seems that whenever the radio/amplifier is on, my cell phone (and others) interferes. You hear clicking and chatter coming through the speakers. In fact, I can tell when the phone is about to ring by hearing the chatter from the speakers before the phone even rings. Has anyone had this problem and had it corrected. I would imagine a shielding problem, etc.

that's because that little evil device gives of radiation. i hear it too. when i was with audi ten years ago - there was a bulliten that came out from germany telling of the radiation danger of installing cell phone antennas on the top rear of cars. the right rear fender was recommended. apparently when you high mount the antenna you get better reception because it turns your entire roof into an antenna and the radiation goes thru your entire body. being in the rear fender it makes the trunk the antenna and minimizes the danger.

in a disco i'm not sure what to do. i know the phone bothers my inner ear and have to use an ear piece or it hurts to use the device.

Sounds like a bad ground connection from that little amps chassis to the body of the Disco.

I have a Nokia 6160 handheld cell phone that I use in my 98 Disco every day with or without the radio and I have never had this problem. However, I do not have a car adapter or hands free setup I just put the phone on the dash and pick it up when it rings.

Possibly EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) which is often the result of un-insulated wires. The bare wire can either be the source of the interference by "transmitting" electrical "static" or it can act as an antenna and collect the interference. Good luck finding the "spot".
