I'm getting a single 'knock' sound in the vicinity of the driver's side wheel area. It happens at low speeds and high speed too when doing long sweeping turns where weight shifts to the driver's side of the truck. I'm not sure where to start looking - suspension or steering? It did this for a short period when I first got the truck then went away - now it's back again!
Any ideas?
By the way - I'm in the middle of my BC vacation getaway - having a great time on our first 'Big' trip with the Disco. It's performing beyond our expectations. Last week we took it up 'Black Tusk' near Whistler - very fun off-roading! Boy what a climb! Pictures were not so good as it was socked in with fog - but I'll get them in here when I get home next month!
Pushing the trucks limits a bit off-road has made us keen to get a few mods for the next out-trip. The addiction begins....

Loose bolts on panhard rod or worn out bushings would be my first guess. Does your truck also wander on the hwy?

I posted something similar to this about a month ago, mine only happens when it is wet. I too a trip to Santa fe last week and on the way out it rained and the popping came back, I am due for the 15k service so I will ltell them to hose her down and try to explain it to me.

My truck runs dead straight on the hwy - so no problem there.
It was wet here the last few days - but it didn't pop then. It's popping now and it's very hot and dry. ?????

My '95 does the same thing and I think it is the motor mounts that are broken. I noticed they were cracked recently and the sound started recently so...Check your motor mounts !

Hummm, I have some Series tranny mounts sitting around; I wonder if they will work ?

check all bushings in the front end and also check the ball joints. drag link and tie rod ball joints.

I'm not sure if the symptoms you describe are the same, but when I had a clunking during hard turns on my 89 Range Rover, it turned out to be a bearing in the swivel housing. Zero lubricant. Whats left of it is now serving as a pencil holder on my desk. So, while you are under there looking at the bushings, you might want to check the fluid level in the housings.

Rock the hell out of it holding the roof rack front corner. I had a similar noise. If it makes the noise when you rock it, have someone (wives are good) take a look underneath. The internal allen-bolts of the front bars (not sure which) were loose.

hmmm... I've figured out that this happens for a couple days everytime after I jack the vehicle - then it goes away - maybe something settles back in after having the weight taken off of it?

Our similar problem was a bad panhard rod bushing. The truck drove straight so it didn't impact the alignment, but would make a terrible knocking sound when the wheel was turned.

Yeah I know, all they want you to do is clean the mud off it took such skill to put on! Good for testing the back OMEs though.
