Just for kicks,
I'd like to know how much/deep water people have gone into and out of (or not).

I've personally been through streams about headlight deep. Let me tell you that is scary as hell. There are so many bad things that can happen if something goes wrong. The first time I did it I was amazed. It gave me more respect for rovers than I already had. It also make me think that if there was a flood or something I would have a reasonable chance of getting my family to safety.

I have been thru some deep water holes where the water was almost level with the hood. If you keep a good bow wave in front of you, you could do this. This was scary . I will never do this again. I did have some water intrusion into the cabin from the door seals on the driver side. Just a little. I need to replace these or add additional seals. You also need to raise your breather tubes on the axles, waterproof your ECU/CD Changer, add a snorkel etc..

Thinking about it now, I don't think it is worth it to try and drive thru water that deep. If something goes wrong, the consequences are pretty bad.

Ofcourse, unless you are in a situation where lives are at danger and you have no choice but to attempt it.

Jay.

I've had water over both side mirrors in a DSII for about 15 seconds. And repeatedly up onto the hood. No worries ;^)

oh christ, another fine bit of advice. get your disco in water up over the hood or onto the hood. wtf? get that sucker stuck in some unknown obstacle in that water and you my friend will have a nice bill to replace that engine.

some of the discoweb bbs guys are a bunch of real quick ones. CW, Bass Man, Disco2guy, and dadster will have a great time on the trail together. I wonder who will kill who or damage the other guys vehicle first?

Wading - the $23,000 gamble
I am not going to take sides on this one other than to point out what the cost of a 'little water damage' costs (i.e. no hydrolock on the engine). A new D2 with less that 300 miles got stuck and stalled in water at the top of the wheels. The vehicle sat in the water over night while they were off trying to find a tow truck big enough. The cost to repair the vehicle at the dealership was in the neighborhood of $23,000. Basically, everything below the midpoint of the doors (from the inside) had to be replaced.

Had the engine hydrolocked, the bill would have been about $10,000 higher. Again, these are dealership prices, so you actual mileage may vary.

Thanks,
Mike

Some water advice:

The design of the front end of the Disco stock works really great at pushing the water with a nice bow. This is due to the air damn and design of the front grill. I actually had the left side completely under for a few seconds and came out ok. Granted, this was by sheer accident, but it did impress the dudes with the 44's and big ole chevys that died in the middle. (I came along AFTER all the fun and unknowingly strolled right through).

I think if you simply take off the air damn or go with a $G or ARB bumper, your wading power is greatly decreased because there less to push the water forward. Any insights?

I have had water over the hood. I made it across the river with no problems, but my brothers D-90 wasn't so lucky. I ended up having to winch him back across the river and tow him for 12 miles back to the house. Check out my pics in the photo gallery. And if you are going to Camp Rover Monteagle, you may have a chance to cross the same river.
