Hello all, I've got a stock '01 Discovery SE (no ACE, 16" wheels with stock Goodyear tires) and have a question about proper air pressure.

Land Rover has the front tires about 8 pounds lighter than the rears in order (from what I've read) to keep the vehicle from turning too rapidly (i.e forces understeer).

We use our Disco primarily for highway driving and only have it off-road once or twice a month at the most.

What front/rear tire pressure would you recommend in order to provide the best highway ride/gas mileage? I know the tires are capable of a much higher pressure, but I'm hesitant to increase the pressure without a little more knowlege from others.

Suggestions?

thanks,
David

dave-

i have found that deviating from lr spec in anyway makes for poorer mpg. set the tires too high and it drops. set it too low and it drops. i ran 40 psi front and rear - and guess what no better if not worse than the std pressures. i keep it about 2psi above spec now and it seems to do alright there.

I am running 255/70/16 in my 94 disco, and I agree with Steve. My last set of tire (befroe it died) I pumped it up to 44psi all around, and mpg did not change. I am runnning 32psi front and 35 psi rear, with my setup, it seems to work.

I run a +10psi rear bias on the road, with the overall pressure dependent on the load (but never less then ~30psi in front).

I'd tell you what I do on the trail, but I don't want to start a never-ending thread...
