Has anyone had any trouble with (what seems to be) their "clear coating" peeling off? I have several places on my roof that are starting to peel or flake off. Is this something that I should be concerned about?

Thanks,

Charles Neal

Charles,
Mine isn't actually peeling,in fact you don't even notice it until it rains. When it rains then it is a haze like white just on the ends of the doors.

The next time I'm at the dealer I will address the problem with them again.

Rico,

I also have a few places that only show up when the vehicle is wet. I bought my 97 Disco about five months ago from the local Rover dealership here in town and did not notice the problem at that time. I'm wondering if the previous owner put some kind of sealer on the vehicle and that is what is starting to peel off.

Please let me know if your Rover dealership will cover any work under the warranty. It would help in my defense.

Fellas, I bought a '96 a few months back and I have a problem w/ the clearcoat peeling on the top. It's not any type of sealant, its the clearcoat. It can't go any further than the gutters so don't worry too much. Mine has peeled aboout 60% of the way but I was too stupid to look on top of my disco when I bought it. If you have warr. then have them cover it, if not then keep wax on it and you'll be okay.

Lynden,

Thanks for the info. I have been keeping wax on it. I do have a 12 month warranty and plan on taking it in next week. Do you happen to know what the cause of the peeling is? Is it due to the summer heat?

Boy I don't know why it would do it. I'm pretty sure heat wouldn't do it. I'm thinking a poor quality clear coat, but something else I wonder about is that the tops of our rigs tend to scrape on things. I wonder if putting a scratch in the cc allows it to start peeling??? I don't know a whole lot about paint and cc so I don't know. Maybe someone else has a clue. Like I said I just bought mine so I don't know when it started or what the circumstances were. Sorry.

I noticed my cc peeling on the roof. Took her back to dealer, new cc for roof. Then it started on the hood(bonet), back to dealer, new cc for hood and has lasted over 3 years, no problem.
Oh and yes, warranty covered the entire cost.
I have a few tiny spots, but following Rico around the woods, it does not compare to the badges of honor that I have accumulated.

Bruce,
Did Reeves cover the repair cost for you?

For those interested, I just took my vehicle to the local Land Rover dealership (Centerville, Utah) and they said that they would cover all costs associated with my peeling roof. Hopefully the problem will not return.

Charles.

it could be a good excuse to paint the roof white like on a d90....

I had not thought of painting the roof white. May be a good idea. Would not show all of those brush marks and scratches as much.

and the car would be alot cooler - then paint your wheels white and mount the spare on the hood and you'd have a disfendry 100. seriously - could be cool.....

Rico, I took my truck back to Dimmitt where I orginally purchased my truck so they had all of my service and warranty issues. They paid for everything, in fact, Dimmitt has always gone above and beyond standard warranty repairs and have replaced, adjusted items that I have torn-up, all of which warranty would not cover. Now that my factory warranty is out, I use Reeves since they are so close and that is the only reason Reeves gets my business.
