Hello all,
I just picked up my white gold SD.
I already put 550 miles on it and love it.
Anyone kwow a good web site for accessories? I'm looking for a hitch and some window visors. I would get them from the dealer, but they are very expensive.
Thanks
Dom

Hello Dominick. Congrats on the new Disco. Check the section under Resources and then Vendors. One of the sites there might have what you are looking for.

Hello Dom!
Congrats on the new Disco! I just got mine on Friday and have been getting acquainted with it all weekend. You have me beat in the mileage though (G). Here's hoping we both have our new machines for years to come!

I picked up my new Disco over a week ago. I think its the coolest vehicle I have ever owned and I'm thrilled to have it. I would like to find very light off road adventures near Ohio as I want to take some trips but also keep my new Land Rover fresh for those on road trips. Any ideas?

Lucky Dominick and Gary
My little suggestion. if you would like to join off-road events or seminar for your first step into this wonderful world, you might want to go to the Land Rover hosted ones rather than those hosted by someone else. The reason is that the vehicle you've got is Disco II, which's got some devices and fuctions different from most of 4x4. These do require some different approach/methods for you to manage the vehicle. in LR hosted events, they would demostrate specifically the difference between Disco II and traditional 4x4s so you'll know how to safely manage your new baby. those non-LR hosted events won't specifically tell you what's the difference between your Disco II and others. it might get dangerous and harmful for you and your new baby. I mean it.
you'll get to learn both knowledges for your Disco II and typical driving techs, and you'll be safe!! 8-)

Congratulations Dominick and Karen on your new Disco! Got mine about 2 months ago and I'm going Disco crazy. We bought the best 4x4 money can buy.

Thank you to Chuanchen. Even though I have owned other off road vehicles, it's been quite a few years and frankly,I wouldn't have thought of going on a LR sponsored event. I'll watch for upcoming LR events. Thanks again for the solid advice!

Hey Guys,
I think it is great that all of you are so excited about your Land Rovers that is what it is all about. If you guys are looking for new parts or accessories for your vehicles I would strongly recommend Rovers Club House in Durham, NC. Check them out on the web and give them a call!

Dom,
I did the Equinox, VT course about 2-3 months ago. Lots of fun, you get to beat up their vehicle instead of yours, and you learn a lot about what the vehicle can do, which is quite a bit. The Disco II I drove did have a winch and A-bar, and heavy-duty springs, but was stock otherwise.
They'll have you trying stuff you'd be afraid to try by yourself. They're very patient and more than willing to answer any questions you may have.
Then, when you get your "official" diploma, you can go out and find some of the local trails and put it all into practice. I actually did that first, then went to the school, then went back out again. There's quite a few places to get off-road up there. My wife couldn't figure out why, if they had a perfectly good vehicle for me to drive, why I'd want to subject my own to such abuse. After we went out on our own I think she understood.

you are welcome, Dom and Gary.
The LR driving schools seem very interesting to me!! I always would like to go there but never got a chance. and my recollection is it costs much.
the local off-road event hosted by LR dealer, as far as I experienced, is good, too. you can get what you want to get. I mean knowledge for off-roading and a lot of LR stuff like puzzles, lR gloves, and all that for free!!. Instructed by Daphen Greene, the former Camel Trophyer in 1996, the event was inspiring. I am in San Francisco Bay Area.
what's you guys' experience with local LR off-road events?

Chuanchen,
None yet, but my dealer told me they try to do something twice a year.
I'm sure I'll post something here when they contact me.

Chuanchen,
I'm unaware of local LR off roading events in my area but I guess now that I'm an owner they will contact me when something comes up?! In the meantime I'm looking to find out if there are any LR clubs in the southwest Ohio area.

Gary,
if you got your disco from LR dealer, I believe they definitely will contact you whenever they have an event. but if you got it from someone else, you might want to ask them when they will do an event. my experience is I can definitely bring freinds to the events.(for free)(I got my disco from LR dealer) so if you know anyone who got they LR from LR dealer, you night want to ask them if possible to go with them.
it might be diferent for your local dealer, though.
LR clubs are very good, too. they should know LR vehicles very well, too. more experienced people there, I guess.

Speaking of accessories (first message this site)I just bought a new Disco SE myself and was looking for the steps that attach to the sides. LR wanted over $700. During a conversation with my sales rep he kind of slipped and I found a great pair at Ziebart for only $340. They come in black mat or chrome and are warranteed for 5 years. Also was looking at those after market burlwood dash kits. LR wanted $1,000 installed and I found a number of them on the net (ebay etc.) for alot less. Weelllll, I saw one installed....ugh!! The cheaper ones glue on over the plastic surrounds on the dash and do not usually cover the entire area, making them look cheap and having the possibility of coming off in the future. The one from the dealer actually replaces the existing plastic around the radio, air etc. and even comes with a new ashtrays etc. Bottom line....I decided to love my "Rover" the way it is with just the burlwood accents from the factory. But if you are dying to have everything in burlwood, spend the extra cash and get the one from the dealer. They look much better I think.

Norm, I think I've got my wife talked out of our running boards. If you want them I'll make you a good deal. They're in good shape, I just don't like the look. Email me if you're interested.

Hey Lynden, I really appreciate the offer, however, I already ordered a set. I too did not like the look of the LR running boards. The ones I saw looked too "built-in" for my taste. I wanted something sportier and found it at Ziebart. Thank you for the offer though.

Hey Kids!!
Congrats to everyone on their new Disco's. I picked up my new LE two weeks ago and I'm loving it!!
Has anyone been to the LR driving school in Vermont?? If so any reviews would be appreciated.
Good Luck

Gary,
I just had the opportunity to experience the Land Rover school at the Greenbrier in West Virginia. Same as described above at the Equinox, but closer to Ohio. We are shopping for a vehicle and considering the Discovery. For us, this was a good chance to experience the vehicle and see if we might enjoy offroading.
The experience was great. We took our two kids with us, who are both over 16, and they were also able to drive the vehicle. Both had a great time. The instructor was knowledgeable and patient. We covered a real variety of terrain, including some that I know I would have been hesitant to approach without an intructor.
The certificate at the end of the program is a nice bonus.
