Any ideas on truck cutting out?

Went to RoverFest this weekend and 3/4 the way there my truck would just 'cut out' during cruising speeds. (70-80 mph) It is always consistant with how long the power cuts out.......always 2 seconds. I am not loosing any electrical power, but it almost seems as if the fuel pump shuts off for those 2 seconds. Originally i thought it had something to do with it raining, but on the way back last night it was doing it with no moisture at all. On the way up it only happened about 4 times, but last night it happened about 15+ times. But always just for 2 seconds and then it was back on. Did not matter if i stayed on the gas or if i pulled my foot off the pedal. Has never happened just crusing around town. And it also seems to always start while either assending or decending. Any suggestions before i start tearing things apart?

Do a search for "vehicle speed sensor" and you'll probably find what you need to know.

The thing is though is that my tach does not move and neither does the speedo. They all read correct the whole time. I just lose a few m.p.h. before the trucks picks back up and i am fine. I may loose about 3-5 mph going up a slight incline, but that is about it. Nothing on the dash goes crazy, just the fuel to the engine for 2 seconds is all it 'seems'. I will do some more checking on the 'vehicle speed sensor', but from what i have seen so far my issue seems a little different.

Mine did the same thing coming back from Nevada last summer, I changed the fuel filter and it hasn't happened since.

i was thinking that as well. but i would think that the filter would cause more inconsistant cut out times. my 60K service is due anyhow and that will be first to be done.

sounds like you had a fun time getting a lot of those DII's unstuck on that one short run over that access bridge with George. i was #3 in line on that one behind the series truck.

my rear bumper has a nice grin now......

Yes, it was a busy weekend for us. Strangely enough, most of the breakdowns happened on the Pico and Killington Peak runs. We had a D90 shear off his track rod coming down from Killington peak - the entire run was just on a dirt road, so I have no idea how that happened..
