Yesterday when the rain finally decided to let up, I went outside and prepared to change my 02 sensors.....

Guys, I tell you what I learned.....First I need some special socket or wrench to fit over the wires.....what size, and who sells it?

Second, I should've been under the truck, because I can see the part that attaches to the CAT, but where is the other side going to? BTW, it's a 94 Range Rover Classic....

Third, I have the 02's from British Pacific, and the end that fits onto the CAT looks a little different from the OEM sensor that is there now....

Can anyone help me with this job....I really want to do this myself, but it really seems like it could be a P.I.A. ......

Hey Trevor can I stop by your shop tonight or tomorrow night?
caught you on Motorweek last Thursday night......must've been a repeat, but it was still a good feature....

The wrench that is typically used is called a flare nut wrench. It's basically a box end wrench with a slot cut in it to slip over the wires. Check the fit with a common open end wrench and then zip off to Sears or Snap-On or whereever you get your tools and buy the proper tool. That should make light work of it.

The other end (wires) go to a plug thats on the wiring harness. Nothing fancy.

Shouldn't matter too much about the slightly different look. As long as it fits and the plug fits, you should be just fine.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. There is absolutely NO SUBSTITUTE for having the correct tools to do a job.

I wish I could help more, but as I have not yet changed my oxygen sensors, I don't have the proper sizing info to give you. Perhaps when you find out, you'll share your findings.

94 rover.

Just use an open end wrench, no need for special socket. Or unplug it first and use the ring spanner end.

Cheers

In this case a flare nut is not the "correct tool" They sell a socket with a slit in it for the wire although all the mechanics I know just use a regular wrench. A flare nut will work but so will a regular wrench.

Ron

I "think" it is 3/4 or 19mm but I am not sure

Ron, and P- thanks...

Ron can you tell me what size wrench....I went to Home Depot and purchased a 17mm but to me it seems to be to big, opened end and boxed end....I also tried my best to get a 15mm down onto the nut but this wasn't the size either....the nut sits inside that ring and I'm having trouble getting the open end on the nut......

I even tried unplugging it and it wouldn't bulge....

I was so ready to do this job yesterday that I didn't move it at all on Saturday because I wanted everthing to be nice and cool under the hood.....

Which end is what?.....I am talking about the end with the three silver pins inside...this is the end that looks simple, but I cannot see where the other end leads....should I be underneath tracing the other end?

Guys I really appreaciate your help, I want to do this myself, and I would like to make another attempt tonight.......

Damn,

What the hell was I thinking! Of COURSE you can use a common box end, just unplug the electrical connection first! DOH! I keep thinking about brake unions where that isn't really a possibility. Of course, having a set of flares is good, don't spend the money if you don't have to.

Sorry for the head-up-butt suggestion.

94 rover,
I forgot. I thought it was big (96 disco). Take the new O2 sensor to home depot and match it up. I suggest you get a set of metric and SAE wrenches from say 5mm to 19mm and SAE from 3/8th to 3/4 and you should find one that would work and you will need the wrenches in the future. or just match up as I suggested.

Ron

PS you might want to spray it with PB blaster or similar if it is onry coming off
