Every time I accellerate, or go from Reverse to Drive, I keep hearing a loud, metallic "clank!" from the drivetrain. Vehicle seems to drive/shift OK, but I decided to check underneath...
When I grab the rear driveshaft and turn it (like it was being driven by the engine), it seems to have an awful lot of play (I can turn it an inch or more). Is this normal??!! If not, what can I do about it? I am very scared to drive it in this condition....I don't want to hurt things more!
Any info would be appreciated...thanks.

Starting at the T case. Big nut that holds the flange will back off some times. Drive shaft must be removed to tighten. Bolts on drive shaft itself can get loose. That should be obvious if thats your issue. Lastly. Could be pinion bearings , diff bearings or broken pin in the rear. You take the thing off road at all?

Nope...hasn't been SERIOUSLY off-roaded yet...but it does go mildly off-road every day (I live in a rural area without paved roads and many potholes, mud, dirt, etc....
Bolts on the driveshaft seem pretty tight...that's what I looked at first, but to no avail, I couldn't see any issues.
I am not sure where to look for this "big nut" on the transfer case...is it in the front or rear?
Thanks for the feedback!
