i like the look of the milemarker winch having used older landrovers 101s, 109s, l/w, s1 in the past with crap electrics i have allway been concerned about fitting electric winches. but now i have disco fever but i still have concerns about rover electrics the milemarker solves this problem to a point but then some one said discovery power steering pumps are weak can i plumb the milemarker in to this or do i need to replace it?
i like the look of the arb bar but will the milemarker fit ?
its a disco 1 v8i with no air con

I've got the Milemarker on my 97 Disco. When I bought it, the only company I could get a decent answer as far as fitting to a bumper was from SG. They made a "customized" bumper to fit the Milemarker dimensions. You can get the dimensions from www.milemarker.com. You might want to check with Rovertym to see if he could fit a Milemarker to his bumper. Usually its not the size of the winch thats a problem; its the lever on the side of the winch when extended that gives clearance problems.
The stock PS pump only puts out approx 1100 psi vs. the 1500 psi to give the winch its pull rating. The output volume of the pump is lower also, so the winch will be slower than normal. The benefit is that you can run the winch all day without the worry of overheating like some electrics can.
If you dont have AC, you could possibly mount a dedicated pump where the compressor normally mounts. Another option is the PTO system, which mounts on the backside of the transfer case. This is probably the best solution to the overcome the weak pump problem, but it is also the most labor-intensive and expensive. I have been trying to decide which option to pursue for some time.
To be honest, the stock pump works fairly decently by itself. It's not an impressive winch because its slow, but when your friend's Warn starts to smoke, all you have to do is smile.

Sorry for rambling. You might want to do a search on Milemarker to look up old threads as well.

I would stay away from the arb if fitting milemarker, simply because the arb forces you to reach in to access the winch, a real aggravating thing. The mounting is the same a warn/superwinch/ramsey. If you don't have airconditioning you can install you're own power steering pump on that bracket and you are done. Holger did this and lots of others in europe.

The PTO is of course the king, and it transforms the winch into an unbelieveble industrial unit, especialy when you add the new military valve to the winch and increase the flow to 8GPM. Total cost is high, but worth it if you use the disco a lot.

As a follow up, I should say I've had the winch for over 2 years of hard core wheeling in mud/water/snow, alone often and it never let me down, not even once. That was with the power steering setup. No maintenance on it ever...nothing, not even a cover through 2 salty canadian winters. What else can i say, it's there when you need it, always.
