Hi All,
I spoke with TIm at Tech support this morning and had a good conversation about the problems discovered with the bumper. There are 2 definite diffent problems that we've identified, here's the long and short of it.
#1. In Christian's case (sorry dude) the crush cans did what they were supposed to, absorb the impact. no matter how weak that sounds, it is the reality of this set-up. Can it be improved, Yes, will ARB do it, who knows. I know they offer a Non-Air bag Version and if your a more hardcore owner, I think that's the bumper for you.
I know it sounds like I'm backing ARB, I'm not taking sides, just letting everyone know what I was told. (not by Dave). The reality of this is that this may be a more cosmetic bumper suited only for EASY, off-roading. For more hardcore off-roading, I think either altering, or, buying a different version is the solution.
#2. In my case, (still waiting to talk to Dave)I have different problem. There are 2 holes cut into the rail that the roller mounts to. This is were my bumper bent. It's a natural place for a failure. If the holes weren't there, I'm 99% sure that all I would have done was dent the roller, I've done that before. The rotation on mine came not from the crush cans, but from the where the front buckled.
I'll let everyone knows what happens next...

Frank

Frank, check out my last post on the previous thread regarding your first response to all of this. I have been told that there is NOT a non airbag bumper for a DII.

Just as a side note. Not sure what the laws are in your land but over here the bars have to be crash tested to be approved Airbag compatable. When I did all the mods to mine, although the ARB guys knew all about it, (off the record), it made it slightly naughty as far as the law is concerned. Over here, if you so much as bolt a hitch to the thing to assist recoveries it's no longer legal. Not that you'd give a shit, unless you smash on road and get a really sharp eyed insurance inspector, then it's re-morgage the house time. Those considering even welding their crush can mounts should check first, or do as I do and plead insanity
