I just bought a 98 disco a couple of weeks ago...the truck is in absolutely perfect shape. However, I noticed when I'm looking at it, it leans a good deal to the right...I read here that the driver's side springs are longer than the passenger side springs. So my question is what would you other owners recommend that I do to fix this? Should I put all new springs on or just new longer springs on the right side, or can I just simply add some spacers or something? Any advice would be great...thanx!

Sit in it and it will be level!

Hey Patrick,

They all Lean from the factory. Rover puts springs of different lengths in the passenger side and drivers side. Idea being that when the driver is sitting in the truck it will sit level. The difference in spring length is small, about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch. If you lift the truck with Old Man Emu Springs, you will find that they have different length driver's and passenger's side springs as well. Great Basin Rover will match up OME Springs for you though, and RoverTym's springs are equal length side to side.

If the lean bothers you, and you don't want to lift the truck, order a pair of Old Man Emu Spring Packers. For about $10 each, they are 10 mm thick (approx .4") poly spacer rings that you can put on the TOP (NOT THE BOTTOM) of the Coil Springs and they will level you out side to side....

Scott- I have just purchased OME MD springs and shocks I was a little put-off by the difference in the size of the springs, and have been thinking of using one spacer on the front passenger side to level it out, but I have some questions:

1. Why not use the spacers on the bottom? I was told you could put these on the top or bottom, and was thinking of putting one on the top and bottom of the passenger side, and one only on the drivers side to even it out AND get a little extra lift up front.

2. Are the rear springs different sizes? They look about the same to me - maybe a little smaller on the passenger side.

I am thinking I might just as well embrace this little quirk (isn't this one of the reasons we all love Land Rovers - there British eccentricity). If I do this I will put one spacer on each of the springs and live with the lean - probably not a bad idea since I am 6'5" 250 lbs. and could use a little extra lift under me, and my wife (who sits shotgun) will never cause the sag I do (I hope).

Patrick,

There is a technical service bulletin out that addresses this. Refer to the tech archives. I have the same problem and based on the info contained in the bulletin my L/R dealer is replacing both of the rear springs under warranty at no cost to me. This will level the ride and raise the vehicle to the same height as the driver’s side. You have to take the vehicle to the L/R dealer so that they can measure it to determine if the springs must be replaced. I'll let you know how it turns out. If the vehicle were not under warranty I’d probably get some OME or Rover tym springs unless of course you do not want to lift the vehicle. This is a plus off road as the clearance is the same on both sides. My thanks to DISCO WEB and to the contributor of the S/B.

Hey Marc,

Use of the Spacer on the bottom does not seem like a good idea because of the depth of the bottom seat. You notice that the spring coil sits on the outer edge of the bottom seat, and the inner portion is raised to maintain the springs position (keep it from moving side to side). If you use a 10mm spacer ring on the bottom, it will negate almost all, if not all of the spring seats ability to maintain the spring position, and you could have the spring slip off one side of the seat. I'm curious who told you you could use them on the bottom, as it just seems like asking for trouble, but...

As for the rear springs, what number are they? I'll assume that they are OME 764's which are different lengths, 16.9 drivers side and 16.5 passanger side. Slight difference, but there none-the-less, assuming someone didn't "Match" your rear springs up....

IF I opt to replace the springs should i just replace the two on the passenger side or all four? and how hard will it be for me to do myself...I'm really good with technical things and hands on stuff and have a basic knowledge of most things dealing with automobiles..and how much am I looking at here $$$ wise?
