Hardware store - a few bucks in materials, and yes.

There are directions in the Tech Section on making your own quick disconnecting set for around $20.

Most guys just make them. Look in the Tech section for instructions. I'm a rigger for stage shows, here's what I would do.

You'll need:

Parts

18' - 1/8" Airplane Cable (steel braided)
4 - Nicopress sleeves (1/8")
4 - Thimbles (1/8")
2 - Turnbuckles (smallest will do)
4 - QuickLinks or Caribiners for the quick-release option you requested. Make sure these will fit into the tabs provided on your brush-bar and roof rack. If not, you'll have to have tabs welded on or drill through for eye bolts.

Tools

Steel Cable Cutting Tool - wire cutter will not work. I would not recommend trying it unless you want to ruin it (no, not even that really good, sharp wire cutter you just bought at Home Depot either)

Nicopress Crimping Tool - a really good hardware store might have one to loan. If you live in the sticks, they still might have one to loan. Most hardware stores will definitely not have one for sale, and will look at you like your an idiot if you ask. A very good store in the City once spent an hour trying to find one (God bless'em) and came up with wire crimpers for telephone equipment.

Hell, maybe I should just make you a set. If you live in the Bay Area, drop me a line.

I meant "...will look at you like you're an idiot if you ask".

Making limb risers is cheaper than buying them. $250 bucks for some wires and fasteners, no way.

They keep tree limbs and other plant/tree obstacles off of your windshield when you are on trails.....

...and chop up pedestrians if you hit them. :-)

They also allow thicker branches to slide up the riser, and come crashing down with some force on the windshield, or side windows.

and also don't forget that they make a nice place to hang your wet clothes, and shoes/boots, after you fall into the stream/river/mudhole that were trying to get yourself unstuck from.......
