You all are a wealth of information, i hope someone can help me with the following issues...
#1 accelerator stuck in the full throttle position on me. pedal would pull up, but engine still would run at full throttle. (scary)
#2 Power sunroof does not work at all. checked fuses. checked switch. (oddly enough the switch was unplugged.... plugging it in did not fix it.)
#3 ABS light is on. Pads, rotors, & fluid are good. any help?
#4 from a stop to pull out, 1st & 2nd gear(and a little in 3rd.) loud gringing noise from front end. front left maybe?

#1 - throttle cable or linkage sticking? look to see that the linkage at the intake plenum moves freely.

#2 - does the motor activate any, or does the roof move a little then sticks? if no movement, motor is possibly bad.

#3 - sensors out of position or bad. LR ABS sucks. i removed all associated fuses to the ABS.

#4 - bearings? are the front swivels lubricated?

what year and milage?

1996 Disco I 52300mi. (service engine light just came on also, but after reading messages from others it sounds like this is supposed to happen.)

#1 it moves freely at plenum. it only sticks when pedal is all the way down. (passing, etc.)

#2 it makes no noise whatsoever.

#3 i'll check this

#4 front swivels?

check the tech section for the service light, i recently sent a how-to to reset the light.

#1 - throttle cable binding at some point

#2 - check for voltages at the motor, if present, motor bad.

#4 - look at the front wheels, the swivel ball encases the CV.

The loud grinding sounds serious. Danno may be right about a swivel being dry.

Man, check it and lube it before you move Disco another inch!

thanks pk.. checked today, fluid was good, however, the propeler shaft rubber coupling is torn. I think that this may be the vibration/grinding culprit. i'll advise after i replace it. thanks all

wags, you didn't mention vibration in the first post and may have solved the problem with the rubber donut. Grease all u-joints back and front shafts while you are doing the coupling. As pk, says, do not drive untill this thing is fully lubed. Grinding noise! Check all gear fluids. Have you changed the oil in front swivel ball housings as posted above? Repacking the wheel bearings should also be on your maitenance list.

thanks moe. you are right, i failed to mention the vibration. oops. sounds like good advice. the rover is parked until i can get the time to to the aformentioned service. after i complete it, i'll post the reults. thanks again.

update: i replaced the propeler shaft rubber coupling. no more vibration. even feels more responsive. part comes w/kit. there is a bushing in the rear of the rear axle which may need to be replaced. i needed a torch and variuos pullers to get it removed, but boy does the Rover run better!
I may know how this may of happened too. The accelerator stuck... i freaked... pressed clutch in to avoid hitting car in front of me.... ran at 5000-6000 rpm, scared to blow up engine i released the clutch causing the damage. ( just a theory) thanks for all of your input! Brad
