My addiction gets the best of me. I only have a computer at work right now all my new computer money goes to John at RTE. But I'm checking this site before clients, after clients, I even come in early to work for this great asset to my Disco life!

way to much! but it's a good thing. about 1-2 hours a day off and on. more so if i'm reading the archieves or looking at pics. but i also read or flip thru a l/r mag atleast once a day, then there is planning the next mod to my disco, checking ebay for landie treats, the australian bbs and the south afrikan bbs, and other l/r sites. as well as misc l/r excursions as building my imaginary rangie on the l/r site....

i think i have a problem......

my name is steve and i am a landroverholic...

Lets just say that it's part of my work day....its amazing, but whenever co-workers come into my office they think this site is a screen saver....
If my company was the type to monitor internet activity, I'd be looking for a new job.....I even think my mouse clicks refresh for me, just so that I can stay up-to-date with new postings....,
And Mike its not fair that you came up with this topic....What if we just all exchange phone numbers and had one HUGE conference call a month....Or maybe even on Monday, so that we could meet and discuss the weeks activity on DiscoWeb.....What do you all think...

Hey JEEPETR, me and the family are thinking about trying that Indian Restuarant that you tend to frequent out in Columbia often. What dish do you suggest?

Monday to Friday 9-5
Occasionally at nights and weekends

I usually just lurk around. Reading posts and sometimes drop in my 2 cents.

My place of employment run web usage reports on each terminal daily and they submit it to my desk every Friday for me to review.

Glenn

Hey Glen, what kind of information is contained in these reports...
can anyone run these types of reports, and is it the sole responsibility of the IT director...
You see, now I'm a little worried....

My work runs the reports as well. I'm sure they don't like me on the net as much as I am. But, it's not like I'm surfing porn or anything. I have heard about people here getting fired for porn but, I'm sure that they would come say some thing to me first before giving me the axe. You never know though. Of course since I work in the Telco industry they tell me I'm going to lose my job every day anyway so who cares.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By 94Rover on Thursday, August 16, 2001 - 07:55 am: Edit

Hey Eric do you know how web usage reports are run? I would like to do this myself if possible...we don't have anyone in the IT departmet, currently.....I'm sure the wheels are turning to get somebody in here...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Mike J. (Mudd) on Thursday, August 16, 2001 - 08:57 am: Edit

Dont wory about those reports unless getting fired means losing your computer. And if you do get fired you'll just have even more time for disco web.

94 Rover,

To answer your question, there's various ways of finding out employee web usage and a common way is the use of a "firewall". This is what we use. An IT Admin can allow/disallow people from accessing sites or the web as a whole with this type of equipment. Along with this, they can also audit the type of sites each computers go to hence, set the filters as necessary. Obviously porn sites are illegal unless you're in the adult entertainment industry. Our company actually encourage the usage of the web as stated in our Internet Usage Policy as long as they don't abuse it. Personal use is allowed as long as it is done in your personal time (i.e. lunch/breaks).

As Eric N said, am sure they don't want us surfing as much as we are but as long as we act responsibly about it (which I know some people here in my workplace that can't) then there shouldn't be any issues. By the way, if you decide to this filtering thing in your office, make sure you let all your employees sign a disclaimer that they are aware you're monitoring them. We used to do it without a disclaimer but with all kinds of law suits around, you wanna obey the golden rule "COVER THY BUTT".

sorry for the novel.

Has anyone tried SAFEWEB.COM? Supposed to encrypt your IP so they can't monitor your usage.

We use "Report to Web" to monitor our users.

This is just electronic off-roading. Taped to the wall beside my desk, right on top of our network schematic, is a copy of the Land Rover mouse with mud splattered all over it. Not too discrete, I must admit.

damn - I log on Monday and log off Friday (just keep the connection going instead of getting on a few times each day). It must look like I'm surfing the web about 100 hrs per week at work (and I only work 40-50 hrs)!

Posting anonymous - Discoweb tech gods leave my IP alone! For my $350/hour bill rate I am on this thing a good 4 hours during the work day. OOOOPS.

They have even better software out that can track what you do on your computer at work down to the key stroke. Every where you go and every thing you type. You can type a nasty email to some one and then erase it without sending it and they still have it. Most places don't use it but some do. Makes you wonder just who's watching what your doing right now huh :)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Bud on Thursday, August 16, 2001 - 10:03 am: Edit

e-Wheeling. Yeah, that's the ticket.

"What are you doing"?

"Just a little e-Wheelin'".

"What's that"?

"You probably wouldn't understand. I'm working on a way to use the firewall in conjuction with the CDL on our D2 so that it's not necessary to force a local lock on the ZF. That should help facilitate a smoother back up in the event we lose connection between the four access points and the base".

"Whatever. I thought you were surfing again".

"Uh, no".

You're right on that one Bud... Although I think you have to disable the ACE and the SLS to avoid conflict with TCP/IP. Sometimes just plain NETBUI or IPX/SPX is the solution to all the ABS issues that comeup with D2s. Of course there's always the BBS in Discoweb that will help you get a Disco fix.

Man, I'm going Nuckin Futs!

Thanks Glenn, and sorry for leaving the last n off of your name....

Well, we haven't had to sign a web content disclaimer, nor has anyone been axed. I am sure there is some "porn surfing" in this office, but no gossip has been thrown out at the water cooler. What happens when you get a "porn" type picture from an e-mail? And whats the difference between clicking a link from an e-mail that lands you in some type of "porn" site, than say just typing in the porn address? Hey, hey I'm more interested in "dirty" pictures of Land Rovers than I am of the female body, but this is the type of "commercial break" conversations I need to make me even more excited about getting back to our discussion threads....

thank god i work for myself.....well sorta. using the word 'work' is not always what i do everyday as most of you know. i pretty much reply to a post within minutes. sad, but true. i could be surfing porn sites all day, but i choose this site. again.....sad. or is it?? just like bluegill said....log on monday and off sometime on friday.
if it were not for this site i would not be getting in so early in the a.m. to see some of the respones or postings.
is this what happens at 30? and i am not even married. i'm doomed!!!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Eric N (Grnrvr) on Thursday, August 16, 2001 - 10:56 am: Edit

If they send you a link to the web site and you follow it then your going to that site. If they just send you a picture then you are only looking at the picture. However, here that would be against email policy and your in trouble. It's a smutt free work place. That's why I have the t-1 cable modem at home so I can surf porn at home as often as I want. They monitor our email here as well. If you type F*ck or any thing like that in your emails it gets flagged and goes to someone to look at. Also, we didn't have to sign any thing either. It's in the employee hand book. They give it to you and tell you to read it. It more or less says that they will monitor every thing that you do while you are at work and they can get rid of you if they want.

I'm in and out about five or six times a day normally. Lately I've been on pretty much all day at least the last two weeks since I hurt my back. I wish I could sue my boss for the injury but she'd probably just drag our kids into court and that wouldn't be pretty:)

Discoweb is open all day on my PC at work.

Read it in the morning, while on the phone, while eating lunch, before I go home.

The only time I don't get to read it is during the weekend when I don't have the time.

Disco-addict.

Horness.

Every day atleast 3 times. My wife think's I'm looking at porn. I think looking at all those nice Disco pic's just like softcore porn, they bring a tingle to me . I'd say I'm a Discoweb addict.I used to dream before I bought our Disco on this sight and now I just lust over other Disco pic's.

Pretty soon all those guys who get paid six figures to monitor email and your Discoweb habit will be laid off anyway. All them Z3, M7, RX whatever driving 20 year olds will be sleeping in refrigerator boxes. Who gives a if some lackey knows I'm looking at Land Rovers all day anyway. I've got my whole office decorated with LR posters and tin signs - it doesn't a computer science major to figure out what interests me. I'm the guy driving the $35K Range Discovery Defender Rover SUV anyway - they're probably afraid my daddy got me the job anywho.

Heck, we keep our little LAN up without any help from anybody but us guys in the office. And we's as dumb as a bag of hammers.

I'll surf the ***t out of Discoweb all day long M-F and some on the weekends when the missus is out shopping. Yeah, I reckon I've made Discoweb my home-page anyhow. Now if Ho and the guys would just make a search engine for something other than Land Rover stuff...

Oh... What would be the fun in that?!

GUILTY!

Depends on how much time I am confined to a computer ... I must admit that it has become too much lately - I'm hooked. I've found that almost any time I'm logged on, I want to "just take a peek", then I end up spending a long time on Discoweb. Last week I hit the beach and didn't touch a computer once - almost did the same this week ...then, alas, I started to get itchy, (I said ITCHY, not B...) tremors, etc., and had to do it. Now, here I am, getting all frustrated because I'm not on a road trip ... :(

Sitting on butt too much at computer causes mine to become enlarged - YIKES!
