was thinking - what if you just added two 10mm polyurethane spacers (one each on the top and bottom of the front and rear springs) on a series one disco - theoretically you would net a 20mm lift - would this work? any draw backs?

Yes you get 20mm of lift. Drawback is that since they don't compress like a spring, you get 20mm less compression/articulation out of the spring. May or may not be important to you.

how about just fabbing 2" spacers out of aluminum or steel you or someone else has lying around? Don't even need to make them round & shiny...

I have a polyurethane spacer like that in the rear of my Disco. No adverse effects there. I would not reccomend them for the front, though. If you put one on top of your front spring, the front spring will pop out very easily, as the lip on the top retainer bracket is only a little more than 10 mm.

so you are saying ok for the rear - 10mm top and bottom (20mm total) - but only 10mm bottom for the fronts?

bluegil - can't go that high due to underground parking - i'd say 40mm max.... so from what you are recommending - any 'ol hunka metal with two holes???

I don't have any on the bottom, just a 10mm on top in the rear. And yeah, I have seen front springs pop out if you try to add one on top up front.

Ok, now I have heard not on top and not on bottom - what is the deal with these things?

I have some 10MM spacers from OME I was planning on installing (just one on PS front and rear to even out my OME MD springs), of course they don't come with any instructions - anyone use these?

You want cheap. BUy a set of HD rear springs and put you stock rears in the front. Whammo 1.5in for cheap.

if you want cheap, you picked the wrong hobby. if you look at the long term, cheap fixes will only cost you more money long term. many manufacturers make springs for under 300, find a suitable set and install them. i'm not saying go break the bank to support your hobbies but always buy parts around reliability first and foremost.
