I don't know about the steering box, but I'm darn sure looking forward to hearing that answer. I need to drop mine out in 2 weeks.
As for the diffs, the fill plug is on the "face" of the diff, and the drain plug is on the bottom. A 1/2 drive ratchet fits right in there...

Have you checked that thre is adequate fluid in the PS box?
Low tire pressures also cause heavy steering.

Also, check your steering dampner. It can also cause a 'stiff' feeling.
Thanks,
Mike B.

yeah, checked all that already..its the power steering motor..took it into a shop about six months ago and they put in "Lube Gard"for automatic transmissions(I found out they make one just for powersteering boxes later). It worked really well. The motor does need to be replaced. Does anyone no where one can be bought cheap? I think I may just get one from England. The price of it and having it sent are still cheaper than the dealer. So where does one empty the powersteering fluid? Please help thanks to the replies so far

To drain the ps fluid, all you have to do is take off one of the fittings on the steering box. The fluid will drain out the hoses easily. I'm not sure, but like the transmission, there's no way to get all of the fluid out. You might want to drain as much as possible, refill, circulate the fluid and check the fluid to see how it looks.
When refilling, fill the reservoir, start the car for about 10 seconds, refill the reservoir, start the car, turn the steering wheel lock to lock 4 times to purge the air from the lines, and recheck the reservoir. The process takes a few times to get the level correct. make sure to use ATF fluid instead of the traditional power steering fluid. Your power steering pump will moan and groan if you use ps fluid. I learned this the hard way when I installed my hydraulic winch.

according to the service manual to drain the power steering box it says "Drain oil, remove blanking plugs and bleed screw. Hold steering box over suitable container, turn input shaft from lock to lock, until oil is drained. Refit bleed screw."
There is also stuff in there on "Stiff Stering checklist", "Power Steering Grunt", Power steering excessive noise" etc
