My 95 Disco gets hot (not red) when idling at a drive thru etc. Cools downs when I start to move. Drove three hours on highway without a problem. Think its the fan clutch/viscous. Anyone know any aftermarket part numbers for the part. I have a Napa and others nearby. I am out of town till Sunday and wanted to replace it.

Could be many reasons, other than the fan, which you can hear in action. do a search to see prior posts re fan failure

Is you radiator clogged? thermostat ok? radiator leaking? the fan is expensive and as far as I know OEM only

I helped my friend replace the fan clutch on his D90. We purchased it from Mohammed at $195. His mechanic was able to stop the fan from turning (while truck was on) by grabbing the fan with his hand.

But like Chris said, it might be something else.

Good luck.

If you have AC, check the two cooling fans in the front, make sure they are operative.

Mike J.:

The expansion tank was a little low, nothing major, maybe three inches below the middle seam. Hasn't done it yet since I filled it up. Maybe that was it. Also..I sat in it for 20 minutes in 90 degree heat the other day and the gauge never went above the middle. Must be a roverism!!

Here's a development..Wife call me yesterday and says it overheated. I get there and coolant is no where to be found. I put a gallon of water in and drive home the mile left. Put another gallon in and start running it. Finally found a nice size hole in the upper radiator hose. Changed the hose last night and ran it for a hour while having a few beers. No problems. I wonder if this hose issue was what caused my initial problem last week? ANy ideas? Also any tricks to getting the lower radiator hose off? MIne is really on there even after taking the clamp off.

The things that pisses me off is the fact that I was going to change the hoses last month, but with my new son, things are tough to do.

Just cut off the old hose. You stand a chance of hurting the brazing on the lower outlet of the radiator by pulling on it. Have you seen the price of a radiator?
