has anyone fitted the air suspension from a late RR classic to a Disco 1? Can it be done? and if so how?

Most people do the opposite - convert EAS to coils.
Like anything else, fitting EAS to a Disco could be done, but.....

but what?

historically, there have been lots of problems with EAS...as in eventually not working problems. Therefore, people usually convert RRs from EAS to coil suspension to avoid the costly repairs.

Its a $1000 + conversion to EAS just in air bags...then the compressor, tank, fittings, labor, asperin, etc.

I think that Atlantic British sells an aftermarket Air Bladder system. It is used to help level out the back for those times when you are towing something heavy. I don't know if this is what you are looking for or not, but it's way cheaper and if it breaks, you still have your existing coil system to get you home.
Thanks,
Mike B.

If you're looking to add more towing capacity, Air Lift sells air bags that go inside your coils. They add 500lb/bag capacity and need about 5-20psi of air. Cost is <$100 for both.

Andy,
The advice you are getting from these people is spot on. Going to airbags in place of coils is asking for expensive trouble. I wouldn't touch a RR with air, or actually, I would and replace them with coils immediately. Coils even ride better.
That said, I do have a magazine article somewhere about a guy in Australia who did this conversion to a Disco. If you REALLY want to do this, I will look up the article over the weekend and scan it.

Don't do it. I had the EAS on my 93' LWB, it was pretty cool to watch it raise up and down, until it didn't work anymore. Once it craped out and stopped raising, it was the worst ride ever, and to add insult to injury, I was lookin at well over a grand to get the shit fixed. Switched over to coils and haven't looked back.
