Let me being by saying I am mechanically challenged and know nothing about anything regarding vehicles. I have only had my New 2001 Disco for about 3 weeks. I notice when braking there is a gentle thumping as if the brakes are not even. I can see movement in the steering wheel, and feel it on the brake pedal. I do not feel it all of the time and I have been assured by my LR sales rep and the manager of the Dealership Service Dept that this is normal until the brakes get "seated" (what does that mean?). I just wanted to know if anyone knew anything about this. IS IT NORMAL? If so, what exactly is it and how long does it take to go away? Is there something I should be doing to hasten the process or should I take it in and have service look at it. I read some of the postings on burnishing brakes and have actually tried something similar (prior to reading these postings) which does not seem to have done anything. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Norm,

does it happen only when you brake on uneven pavement or slippery surface? if it is your case, then I think it's normal. it is that the four-independent-channel ABS is working. you should hear some "noise" working right at from your slightly left hand side of your steering wheel on the dashboard. you'll feel it on brake pedal, too.
If something other than this, I am not sure.

Mine is 99' Disco II.

Chuanchen;

Thanks for replying. Not sure about that. Will have to pay closer attention. I know it hasn't been on slippery pavement cause I have only driven it in the rain once. But I will watch for it occurring on uneven pavement. I have noticed it does not always do it so that may be something to watch for. The dealership said to bring it in if I am concerned but that the break-in period is 1,200 miles. I am only at about 800 so I guess it wouldn't hurt to wait until then eh?

Norm
