Was wondering what were some of the more popular colors? Will be getting a new Disco in the near future. Hard choosing a color. They all look great. Heard 2 new colors a scheduled for 2002.

I have a black Disco, it's not one of the LR black colors. The previous owner of the car had the thing repainted because of some heavy hail damage. I'm not sure what the original color was.

My favorite color is British Racing Green, BUT my Discovery is white because the sun blasting down on the Kansas plains turns any dark color vehicle into a furnace.

Can anyone identify this color? It's a dark green with a yellow/gold sort of undertone. I think it's the woodcote green. It is very similar to the willow. The first Disco I ever drove was this color. I almost bought it, but it looked as if it had ben wrecked.

Mitch,
I asked the same question a couple weeks ago when I was settling the details of my new purchase. I got some great advice (I think the thread was the "Newbie tries ACE/non-ACE", or something close to that-technical area of this forum) The concensus seemed to be that if you wanted to avoid scratches being noticeable, go with lighter colors. The darker colors are beautiful, but require loads of maintainence to keep looking as pretty as the day you bought it. I really think the Discos look like very different vehicles depending on whether the color is light or dark. Personal preference all the way for sure. I settled on Whitegold though a good case could be made for nearly all the colors. Maybe ask Steve, he's the one who kept asking me what color I was getting when I was trying to be all serious about ponderous issues (VBG). Ah, and don't forget those DiscoWeb stickers, LOL! Enjoy the process of deciding, it's all too much fun.

Yep, its woodcote green...I may be wrong but I think it was the anniversary color....
If I were to purchase a "newbody" Range Rover, thats the color I would go with...don't no why I like it, but I do-

currently, 97 LSE British Racing Green (anyone else with this color?) Wife's mall crawler 97 SE is Rioja Red (Her "new"98 is white) I like the dark colors but my next one will be white. Oklahoma heat is the main factor for white. We recently saw one of the Disco's that have the zebra stripe kit and my son loved it. I'll probably do that to my next Disco (Good advertisement for my company).

Blenheim Silver. Ages gracefully. Last vehicle was white. I wanted something similar, but with more color. Looks like White Gold if it's overcast outside. Contrasts nicely with all of the black trim and black accessories available. Has to get REALLY grimey to show any dirt at all.

97 Disco SD is Avalon blue, 96 4.0 SE is Beluga Black,... woodcote green was a 98 anniversary color, but it was also available on 99 SD and DIIs

96 Disco is Avalon Blue...fantastic color...looks green under most NH light conditions but when the sun really hits it it's a dark blue. Shines up good w/ buffed and looks rugged when dirty. Is there a better combination? :-) Plus it's pretty unique up in this area.

Yeah, now that you put it that way, I have a faded British Racing Green, that looks awful when the sun hits it, and better when its very cloudy out.....Its extremely yuck right around the gas tank area...and extra yuck underneath...dried up mud thats been powerwashed several million times, and pine sap...coated on the hood....., you know I'm so RICH that I don't even bother to get it re-painted...thats what my neighbor thinks.....silly old man!

All this talk about paint...
I'm wondering what you guys do to minimize the
natural pinstriping. I mean in the way of wax or hand polishing products. I don't have a power buffer or anything like that. (I know it's something of a badge of honor, but let's just say you needed it to look presentable for some off the wall reason...)

you are lucky MTB....my wifes swears that if i zebra stripe my 94 she will never ride in it again!.hmmmmmmmmm oh its white too, and red and some green and some black
By C. Ross on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 05:28 am: Edit |
I think there is a kit that you can buy to Zebra stripe them. It is die cut stick on stripes made out of the same type material as regular pinstripes. This way you could remove it when you got tired of it.

94rover -
sandglow man! - the colour of the camel trophy cars!! it is a most sacred colour!! looks cool, who cares if you scratch it and it makes any land rover look totally cool - if my paint ever goes south - that is the one to get....i'll bet earl shieb could do it for about $2-300. (i'd do my own masking and trim removal though)
re: zebra kit - i got black vinyl and did my white yiep myself by hand. took about 2 hours. actually it was supposed to be a white tiger - but close enough. take a national geographic with you so you can see how it is supposed to look on an animal - and then blend with the car.
i can email you a pic of my old yiep if you need inspiration

Hmmmmmmm, I think I saw a zebra striping kit in Land Rover Owner International mag. I'm rushed right now, but if you don't find anything out remind me and I'll have another look later. I got the husband eye-roll when I mentioned how much I liked it.....'course, on our paint color it would look a little stupid.

Hi Karen, so you & I have a few things in common - I have a new SE, the whitegold color - it's true (IMHO), it dosen't show the dirt as much. I can attest that it dosen't show the scratches as much either.
As for buffing out scratches, my hubby found a great working (and fairly easy way or he woudn't have bothered) way to buff them/reduce them/ camofluage them/(whatever) that he used on my old 4X4 (it was a burgandy color). I'll have to ask him about it. But we all know those scratches are nothing to be ashamed of ;-)

Hey Kim, did you read Steve's analysis of our color choice on another thread? I think he was cheating and reading around first, but he swears he's just gifted. I'd be very interested in hearing about your hub's scratch covering solution. My Disco is pretty and perfect now, but I don't know how long I can count on that. I'm getting the off-roading bug, and am already thinking I should buy a second Disco or RR to wheel, LOL! Weird thing, my husband took the notion of buying a second 4X4 much more easily than the zebra striping idea. Hey Steve, give me your analysis of what kind of person zebra stripes and doesn't!
Karen, glad to meet another girl. Where's Alyssa been?
By Dean Brown (Deanbrown3d) on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 03:54 pm: Edit |
Mud color.
But I think under there somewhere is a bit of Java Black / grey scratches mix.
By Roverine on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 06:06 pm: Edit |
Ha! I just now read the thread with the color analysis ... Truth is, I just liked the way the whitegold hides dirt & scratches (have another car same color, neighbors already commented on that, LOL).
As for the scratches, I scrounged around in the garage, and found what Dh used earlier to successfully "remove" a couple of narly scratches: White Polishing Compound No. 7. Very simple - just like waxing. I haven't even addressed the scratches on my new vehicle because they barely show with this color paint - started to accumulate them before I even got my tags & plates (not to give wrong impression, I do observe "treading lightly").
Happy Rovering,
Kim
...that "Zebra Mobile"!! .... he he he he he (I drove one around for a day, and I was MORTIFIED - was it because of all the $G on it? LOL)
By Roverine on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 06:24 pm: Edit |
P.S. Karen, (just reread my post) not to infer this white polishing compound #7 works miracles - there are some extremely deep and more "gash" like scrapes or chips that it wouldn't work with. There are some sort of "color sticks" that you can purchase also, but in my own experience they don't really help that much more (maybe I didn't use them correctly). Typically the compound did a fine job, and besides, after you get going on your first really fun offroad adventure, you'll be proud of those scratches
