While offroading this weekend, I encountered a 'puddle'. Needless to say I had to go through it to continue my trip and ... oops I broke my disco. After completing my pass throught the water, the engine began misfiring..bad. total loss of power (engine could not even move the truck) Since I was about 30 miles from civilization, I just let the distributor dry and the truck started and ran fine. I enjoyed the final 2 days of my trip with the check engine light on. Lots of offroading with no additional problems other than the dash light. To the point: the fault code under the passenger seat shows 44. This, I believe, is a Lambda sensor A - left bank. I tried reseting the display, and the truck has been run and cooled more than 5 times and the light is still on.
So... Is the Lambda sensor the same as an oxygen sensor? Which side is the left bank? Any ideas?
I have had the truck 3 weeks and I love it. Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.
Brian

Maybe this link might help you. This site has some good info on pre-OBD-II Discos. Have a look around.

Thanks for the link Alex. I went to that link earlier today to determine what the fault code was, however, I do not know which side of the engine is considered the left or right (boy when I read that I feel like an idiot)ie. is drivers side, right or left? Moreover, has anyone replaced the Lambda sensors before?
any help would be appreciated.
Additionally, when I get time I will post the infamous 'opps I broke my disco picture'
thanks

OX SENSORS

CODE 44 IS AN INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WITH WITH THE "A " BANK DRIVER'S SIDE SENSOR.
"B" BANK IS THE PASSENGER SIDE.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN WADEING YOUR VEHICLE CHECK CONNECTION ON ON SENSOR, VISUALLY INSPECT THE SENSOR CASE FOR DAMAGE!

IF IT IS DENTED , NG GET ANOTHER ONE.

HAPPY MOTORING

I have only had my 95 Disco for a few weeks also. I had a different problem but my check engine light wouldn't shut off until I disconnected the battery for a couple minutes. Make sure you have the radio code if you have a stock radio. Maybe it's just me but I just figured something out when trying to get the dang check engine light to turn off. Resetting the "Emission Reminder Timer" just shuts off the Service Engine light not the Check Engine light. I used to think they were one in the same.
