As I have been reading the DiscoWeb about all the topics and fixes, I have noticed many of you referring to nuts, bolts and tools in both metric and imperial measurements.

Which one does LR actually use for it's parts?

Like if I buy more tools, should I buy metric or imperial?

Thanks

All 4 cyl engines upto about 1982/1983 are imperial. After that Land Rover went to metric.

If you want a toolkit to work on a Disco you really need both - but in my experience the inch size tools do get used more often, even if they don't fit perfectly :)

Supposedly metrinch sockets are good and will fit both. Expensive, but would save weight and space in the "in-truck" toolkit.

I have metrich. I dislike them. Much more "slop" when using them so you get less turns per socket sweep. If anyone wants to trade I have a spare set of metrich used once (most everything you would need, wrenches up to 3/4th, lots of sockets 1/4 and 3/8th drive some deep sockets, screwdriver and bits, even a spark plug socket, U joint, extentions)
