Hey, yesterday-Washington, DC 295south....White Disco I -outfitted with roof rack, white Hellas attached(4)- big ass Land Rover sticker, steel wheels---and what appeared from to be a SG bumper......

Are you part of the Discoweb Family? And I even tried to wave.....Just doing my part...
I was in the 94RangeRover ClassicSWB, 2" OME Lift, naked ARB bull bar-No winch- 295north...I think it was around 6:30ish....

Yeah, thats what I thought....and I was thinking after waving "damn, I think that was Kyle"....man that was like seeing a movie star... or in our case....a senator, or congress man, or even your local political power...
Now that I think about it, there wasn't any way you would've spotted me, especially in the area of 295 that I saw you...I was getting on 295-north, right at the SE, SW bridge....I usually take that route home when I think traffic has died down some....yesterday, I decided that it was late enough to cross the bridge without watching brake light symphony ...it's even a dread to get on 295 north, due to the volume of cars trying to exit 295 and head down Suitland PKWY....Bah, Blah, Blah......I'm just a spy when it comes to spotting Rovers...my wife calls me crazy, and worries that I drive to pay attention to how many Rovers I spot, instead of paying attention to the road ahead.....whatever-I notice her plent of times doing the same....she'll just nod now and smile and say, yeah I saw it....you know in our area..if you pay attention, you can spot atleast twenty in thirty minutes.....

Glad to see you, or anyone that I know via- the www....

And I didn't think I would get a response....

Man Ho, I'm telling you...I used to see a face daily....

Now I just keep my ears open for Capitol Hill Gossip....

It was a time you could walk into a local dinner joint...lets see, a place like Georgia Browns..and just wonder if the company they kept was business or pleasure.....Nowadays-especially after the missing persons case...its all tinted Chevy Burbans, smoked out Towne Cars, and secret dinning *special permission only* spots.....

This city is a joke sometimes-and just think I commute all the way in from MD......,

oh I forgot to add Monica Lewinsky, and other not so infamous interns to that list of folks...

Kyle, are you going to let the anti IMF crew use your Disco?

94Rover,

I don't miss my days on The Hill at all! The good news is it makes you amazingly impervious to star gazing after a while. Anymore when I see a celeb I don't get impressed. A whole lot of those folks you'd never choose as your friend. They really are "just other people", though with more access and temptation opportunities than most. I'll opt for my intact marriage, happy life, and students who all make it home safely at night. D.C. to me is my airline hub for trips to better places.

Kyle, don't let them have your Disco. In fact, you guys really ought to take that whole week off, LOL!

Karen ;)

My fiance works on the hill in the Hart (sp) building for a Senator. I don't go into DC very much as there isn't anything there that I need or want that I can't get closer to home. As for famous people. Who cares.. They are just people like every one else. Only difference is that their life sucks cause what ever they do there is some one watching it and telling every body else or sending pictures to the local rag mag. When ever I get introduced to famous people I just say "Nice to meet you" shake their hand and go about my business. If I'm not introduced to them then I just ignore them and leave them alone.

Tisk, Tisk, Tisk---Kyle...
The Summit, you know all the talk is about the summit next month...all the beefed up security......International Monertary Fund...
But the interesting thing will be all the protesters....
I remember last year when the entire police force was storming the city in buses....
This will be the same summit..only expected to have a higher impact this year...

Eric-I feel you on the DC attitude...and as soon as I can change settings I will do it....

IMF = I'm mule fodder

I hope the police beat the living hell out of them again this year. Perfect time to see how well their horses are at trampling protesters and trying out the latest in riot gear.

Eric, my rule is this: If they're not talking about me, why am I wasting my life's energy talking about THEM? Saves me countless hours watching "Access Hollywood" and the like. As for the poor police horses, I hope it all goes well. As horses are my business, that worries me more than anything else.

LOL, Kyle I guess you have your priorities right. Your Disco's more than up for whatever you need to roll over (great pics in the photo gallery). You're in MD, right? Eric is in VA, 94Rover is MD I think. Who's in the photo gallery with the So. MD. pics showing Rt. 210?

When we had that bad snow storm a couple years ago I took the morning off of work and went driving through the snow in some neighborhoods that weren't plowed yet. I passed some poor old guy out shoveling his drive way and looking like he was going to die doing it. He just watched me drive all the way up his street. I rode by the same house a couple of weeks ago and wouldn't you know there were his and her Disco 2s in the drive way. Guess he figured he didn't want to shovel snow when he can just park on top of it.

I'm thinking that we should set up a run with the local people (VA, MD, and D.C.) that are on Discoweb to some where and put some faces with some names.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Karen Jones on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 05:47 am: Edit

I just took another look, thanks for pointing the way. LOL, hilarious vanity plates! When I learn something about driving, I'll ask you about some local places to go. Some wanker just pulled donuts all over the local high school football field creating thousands of dollars in damage. When he gets out of juvy hall, I'll tell him, too.

I am up for that and know where to go. Just keep it semi small. Easier for the less experienced folks that way...

Hey Eric, A neighbor that lives near me did the same.....he went out and purchased a "new body Range Rover, it was a 96. After keeping it and waiting for a horrible snow storm last year(it didn't happen) he sold it...reason-"the damn thing burned too much gas"....., I believe he got in over his head, and wanted out....he still comes over to talk about my Classic from time to time----and he never leaves without making a comment about "before I sold the Range Rover".
Silly old man-

Yeah Eric, I'm with you on the LOCALS RIDE, thats if my 94Range Rover is welcome, I will not be behind the wheel of a Disco until next month(hopefully mid-Spetember)....Who wants to spearhead the project? I'll follow the leader.

If it's easy and local, I'm in. If you want challenging, go without me and I'll try to prepare for the next easy trip. I won't be offended if you don't want a newbie with a stock Disco who's never driven off-road before. I have everything to learn and don't want to trash my new vehicle doing something I shouldn't.

Karen , thats not how it works and its something you should get in your head early on. If you are "Trashing" your truck then something is not going right. You can go do what you want and not trash it if you do it right.... Thats why I mention a small group so some time can be taken with those that are in just that position. The one thing I will mention is scratches though. They are unavoidable in most cases..

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Karen Jones on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 06:14 am: Edit

Thanks Kyle, I know exactly what you mean. What I really meant is that I didn't want to get in over my head and trash my truck because I'm so inexperienced. It's been suggested I take a LR driving course or at least attend a LR dealer's event to learn before I venture out. Might be a good idea to do first? I dunno, wish there was a way to watch and learn first. I'm trying really hard not to let my enthusiasm get the better of me. I teach people everyday how to safely do something that can be inherently dangerous, and there's nothing worse than a newbie in over their head. Hell, I still have to do a hard read on my Owner's Manual!

Karen, still scratchless!

That's OK Karen. I'm for the most part new too. I have been out a couple of times but, I have lots of learning to do. That's why I won't go out alone. It's much easier to get into the trouble then it is to get out of it.

Kyle, since your the man with the trail, you want to arrange it? I'm in Canada the same week as the KKC and won't be back till Sep 9th. So weekends after that would be good. If you don't that isn't a problem either. We can just pick a date and a place to meet and then go from there. Small group would be good. Every body have their email address on their profile so that this can be made off list if needed? I don't see many address when I go over your names. Can send them to me directly if you would like. Mine works but, it is my home address so you may not get a response from me right away since I'm at work.

Karen, You can always park at the trail head and get in some one else's Disco if your worried about it. They got extra seats you know :)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Kyle Van Tassel (Kyle) on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 06:29 am: Edit

Karen I am sure I can look out for you and the hubby on the trails and make sure you two dont destroy anything :). As long as you can listen you and the Disco will be fine. I am off to canada for a run today actually and we wont return until Tuesday. I have another run on the 7th of September but after that its cool. Nothing after that until October. The place I am thinking should be perfect for everyone. Has everything from dirt roads to nice ledges. None of it is really all that hard and can be done in a stock Disco. as I said before , some scratches are the worst of it...

Awww kyle made new friends....
for everyone off-roading with kyle you must first do 2 things

1. Do not feed his ego, his head is big enough.

2. Constantly ask how much he paid for stuff, cause you will never get a straight answer.

I adhere to both, especially rule 2.

ahhh the Ego has landed...

hehe, kyle is a great guy to go off-roading with. just repeat this in your head as he speaks to you,"he means well... really he does." as he yells, gives unwanted commentary... etc. etc.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Kyle Van Tassel (Kyle) on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 06:59 am: Edit

lol , never starts out a yelling but always seems to end that way with you young boys. Maybe if someone had been there to yell you wouldnt have submarined your truck in the barrens and boomeranged a trailing arm in CT ? As I said before , its really pretty easy , just listen... I remember when I spotted you up onto a narrow ledge to winch you in PA on a Mountain , in the rain , in the mud , in the dark. It took a small bit of doing just to get you into position , I told you not to do anything but sit there while I got you hooked up and what did you do?

yes,,, the price changes on everything. it's ridiculous.

if you ask and get a blank stair it was a very low price. probably took advantage of someone.

if you get the stair and a laugh,, it was probably free or bartered

if you ask and he takes a puff from the cigarette it was just on sale.

What he did was let his young ("The hell with him I dont need to listen , I think I can make it!!") brain take over and gassed it , sliding sideways off the ledge puting him in worse shape then when he started. Should I mention that I had been on him for months before that to get a winch and he always said he didnt need one? Or that soon after that truck he got a shiny new winch? :) I wont stand there and let someone destroy their truck.

Rob - LOL, you nailed it perfectly.. i'm printing out a copy right now to frame on my truck.

Kyle - My credit card company thanks me everyday for your friendship. Even after I buy the Mutha of all winches, you gave me shit on buying the wrong brand. If you only knew the strings I had to pull to get that bad boy, but hey 680 for a 12k winch won't too bad.

That's alright. My ears and my mouth don't work at the same time so if I'm not talking I'm listening. I know enough to know that if I don't know how it is a damn good idea to listen to some one that does.

winch is working fine kyle, odd you remeber me saying i didn't need a winch when i bought a damn winch bumper and was driving around with it before i met you.

it's called couldn't afford a winch. anfter that i though that i couldn't afford to not have one.

a: because it is a good tool
b: because i couldn't stand to hear you bitch about it anymore.

but alas like al i got the wrong brand, 12k warn, i must wang arouind too many jeepers.

have fun in canada.. hope michel has to pull your ass out with his milemarker.
