I recently used my 98 Disco to tow my Jeep to the Rubicon and back. Although the load is about 6000 lbs total, I installed air helper springs and the Landrover towed the load well.
The only problem I encountered was attempting to fill the gas tank. The vent tube would fill with gas and cause the filler pipe to fill quickly and engage the auto shut off on the gas pump. Most annoying to take 15 minutes to put in 20 gallons of gas. Using the trailer jack to raise the rear and remove the hitch weight yielded little success. I know that the gas tank vent has to confirm to the smog nazi's laws but I am about to remove the stock vent and reroute it and run larger vent tube.
Has anyone encountered this? any quick fixes?

Had the same problem, bring it back to the dealer, it's covered under a repair bulletin. The fix should only take about 20 minutes. Had mine done last year and have had no problems since then. It's not the vent tube, I thought the same, but the filler neck has to be fitted with a different style gasket at the top to keep it from sliding down.
