I've got a 1997 SD we recently purchased. Under the passenger seat are brackets and two wire lead plugs I "assume" are for the CD changer. I frequently see LR changers for sale. Is this a "plug-n-play" installation? I've been told it is, but I can't find anything in the owners manul or on the radio face plate that refers to CD changer operation.

Thanks.

yep, it's plug-n-play - if you get the LR changer,
except it's a bit more complicated than that. You have to take the seat and plastic base cowling off first. But the good part is it isn't difficult. I did it this aftenoon in about an hour, after I spent two hours locating a size 50 torque screwdriver socket to remove the two torque screws holding the rear seat tracks. After I unbolted the rails I just leaned the whole seat rearward without disconnecting the seat electrics and installed and pluged the wires into the changer. All in all a cake walk.

PS. The Sony system in my LE automatically senses that a CD changer was installed and when I press the mode button on the radio it cycles over to the CD. It was kind of exciting to listen to the CD fire up when I checked the function before I closed everything up.

Jerry, what year is your rig and did you install a factory changer?

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. My vehicle is a 98 Disco LE. The CD is installed under the passenger seat where the factory brackets and wiring already existed. All I did was remove the seat and seat cowling and plug two wire connectors in the changer. I bought the changer, used, out of a 95 or 97 Disco. It is the same 6 disk LR changer that Atlantic British sells, new, for a LOT of money. Although, strangely, they picture it coming out of the side of the seat, and say, strangely, that it goes under the driver seat. Maybe it did earlier and my car is one of those transition models where things are - well...strange. Hope this is helpful. I don't know what else to tell you.

Yes, it is. This is a factory CD changer, LR part# is AMR 3053

There's a auction on eBay now for this unit:

Good luck!

So could I just purchase this unit from Pioneer directly? It would have to be cheaper then AB?

I don't think you can get it from Pioneer since they have legal contract with LR, samething with Alpine for 2000+ Disco II model.

Does anyone know the original manufacturer and model is the LR 990 radio. I own a 99 Disco II and I am interested in getting a non-dealer compatible cd changer. If possible I install it myself? The dealer price probably is over $700.00 and I wonder if this can be accomplished cheaper.
