While changing the tranfer case oil on my '95 Disc., I managed to mangle the rubber cover of the handbrake cable (blasted cable seems to be positioned in the exact wrong spot to do this job!!). The metal inner layer of the cable seems to be intact, although there seems to be a fair amount of oil/grease inside the rubber layer. Anyway, I went ahead and wrapped up the mangled part with duct tape, which seems to be coming off now. However, the hand brake continues to work as well as before.

My question: Does it really matter if the outer rubber of this cable is destroyed? Will I need to replace the whole cable at some point because of this mangling?

Thanks,

Norm
