Only 6.9 inches tread width - seems a little narrow.
BTW I got to see my new BFG MT KMs today (265/75/16 - same height as yours) and they are fan-frigging-tastic! Look a bit like the TrXus but more expensive, but wow do they rock!

What is the paranoia about skinny tires?
Big fat tires are not the only way to get it done.
By Danno on Thursday, August 23, 2001 - 05:29 pm: Edit |
not the size you silly rabbit, the tire itself.
i already use 235/85's

How is a 10 ply rated tire going to ride on the highway? The thing has a +3000 load rating!
By Ron on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 05:15 am: Edit |
Thats what all the rover people run 8 ply or 10 ply usually. None of this wimpy 6 ply crap. Some morons (like me like HD load rated bias plys on light (<3000lbs aka my series sans roof) trucks. You can run 0psi and still be ok Serious though 10ply E rated tires ride fine on the road as a disco is pretty heavy.

so what's all this ply talk....
do i actually have 8 plies on my tire's tread?
By Bill Bettridge (Billb) on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 06:08 am: Edit |
The Dunlop R/T in 245/75/16 are load range E and have a 10 ply rating and run just fine in any condition - loaded/unloaded - slow/fast - hot/cold, etc
By Ho Chung (Ho) on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 06:19 am: Edit |
so what's this 10 ply rating.... ?
By Moe on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 06:36 am: Edit |
It is mystery to me too. The interesting thing is that it is a rating so it doesn't actually mean it has 10 ply. It might have one steel and just a few fabric but still maintain a 10 ply rating. Aint that a rip-off
By Jeff on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 07:05 am: Edit |
the ply rating is acutally all the layers added together
i will check tirerack.com, but i think i remember it as 3 on each sidewall, inside and outside and 4 on the tread
silly huh!
By Ho Chung (Ho) on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 07:06 am: Edit |
load range ratings C, D, E makes more sense to me.
but if they had some table that would explain how many pounds each ply is good for...
By Jeff on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 07:19 am: Edit |
I have a really short attention span, so I didn't read much but it looked like all you wish the guy at the tire store knew, before he sells you a set of tires.

10 ply...it's kinda like 3 ply Charmin, but with 10, for better removale of cling-on's....speaking of which....
By Ho Chung (Ho) on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 08:18 am: Edit |
yes, jeff, the sidewall tells you how many actual plyes there are.
and most of them say something like
3 polyester + 2 steel (tread)
2 polyester (sidewall)
the above isn't the issue, the ply rating that some companies talk about like 8 ply rating, and so on.
by the way, that tirerack site is very educational.
thanks for sharing the link

tire king?
i tried 35x12.5...and that was with the OME's at full droop.
couldn't do it until now with RTE parts.
have to move the A-Arm back, and that would cause the axle to hit the gas tank.
don't know about the front axle, but will have to move it forward a bit.
then some spring spacers, cause they would definately rub on the door.
thinking of trying the 34x9/16's. a 4Wheel Parts just opened near me and think i might have them give it a try.

I'd love to try that tire but I'm not going to spring for 'em without knowing if they're gonna fit. I think major sawzall treatment is in your future ! Man, I got's 'ta know !

What kind of side slope angle's are you doing with set up like that.

Side slope, side shmope! Whatever! The knot in your gut will make you back off before you get to the tip angle...

I don't care what people do with their rigs. I just asked a ? but sometimes people don't listen to their gut or they go down a trail with no turning around. Sorry if I hit a nerve.

By Alex Schubow (Alex) on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 11:16 am: Edit |
No nerve hit! I only know that I've shit bricks in my Disco a few times, once at about 45 or so degrees (pics in my gallery, but of course you can't tell the severity of the lean in the photos ) and always stayed on rubber side down. I have 3-4" of lift. Also, I weighed my truck - it weighs 5400lbs with all my shit and a full tank of gas. Add another 230lbs if I'm in it.

By MTB on Friday, August 24, 2001 - 11:21 am: Edit |
I know what you mean and I am not lifted as high so I could only imagine being up as high as Danno is going to be at some angle's we can find our selves in

i'd do the number on Bill Gates, if i didn't have to swallow....hehehehe
i'll see if the 4WP's has the tire in stock and if i can get them to test fit it. i'm not lift that high, just 3" RTE's
i was going to try a set of 34X9's off a D90, but he sold them off before i could try them.
no-way will 35's fit, unless an Icelandic transformation was performed....hmmmmm?

Re: not the size you silly rabbit, the tire itself.
Shit man, at least get your facts straight before insulting others. Look at the fucking web site www.intercotire.com and you'll see the tread width IS 6.9 inches, what you're talking about is the cross section.
